Iverson and Webber Reach Milestones
by Adam Abramowitz, Sixers.com
Nov. 17, 2005

Allen Iverson and Chris Webber have both accomplished significant milestones in their NBA careers this month. Webber scored his 15,000 point against the Bobacats on Nov. 4 and less than two weeks later, Allen Iverson reached 17,000 career points against the Raptors. The two veteran stars of the 76ers have led the team to a 6-3 record, good for first place in the Northeast Division.

Allen Iverson is the fourth active and the 64th player in NBA history to score 17,000 points. Iverson reached the milestone with a free throw near the end of the first quarter in the 76ers 121-115 over the Raptors.

Humble and gracious after the Raptors game, Iverson gave credit to the many who have helped him reach the milestone. "17,000 points. Obviously I couldn’t have done this without my teammates," he said. "They are the ones that set the screens for me and get me the ball and that is all the teammates I’ve had in 10 years. It’s kind of like a tribute to those guys and the coaches I’ve had that believed in me.”

Webber is now the sixth active player to have scored 15,000 points. After the Bobcats game, he was interested in reflecting on the team's progress rather than individual accomplishments. In the NBA, Shaquille O' Neal and Gary Payton of the Miami Heat are the only active teammates to score more total points than Iverson and Webber.

O’Neal, Payton and Clifford Robinson are the only other active players with more points than Iverson. Kevin Garnett ranks between Iverson and Webber on the active scoring list.

Iverson is also fourth on the 76ers all-time scoring list behind Hal Greer (21,586), Dolph Schayes (19,249) and Julius Erving 18,364). During the Nov. 16th game against the Raptors, Iverson became the 24th active player, and 59th player in NBA history, to record 800 three pointers. Iverson scored 42 points overall in the game on 16-26 shooting from the field and 9-11 shooting from the free throw line. The game marked the 60th time that he had scored 40 points in a game.

After Webber arrived from Sacramento during the 2004-05 season, the two perennial-All Stars had an acknowledged feeling out process on the court. With the familiarity between the two growing during their first full season together, the combination has given the 76ers a jumpstart on the young season.
