Iverson Injures Thumb Against Puerto Rico

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 17, 2004 -- Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson suffered a non-displaced fracture of the right thumb during the USA versus Puerto Rico game on Sunday, August 15. Iverson was examined by Dr. Sheldon Burns of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Athletic Trainer David Craig of the Indiana Pacers, both on the USA Basketball medical staff in Athens, Greece. X-rays indicated a crack in the bone of the right thumb. The injury is stable, and Iverson has been cleared to play in today's contest with Greece (3:15 p.m. ET, USA Network). Depending on his comfort level, he may wear a protective splint or taping.
