PHILADELPHIA, PA - Friday, Oct. 5, 2002 - 76ers All-Star guard Allen Iverson will be sidelined two-to-four weeks after suffering a fracture of his right third finger in the Sixers’ practice session on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State University.
Iverson, who led the NBA in scoring (31.4 points per game) for the second-straight season and third time in four seasons, missed 22 games due to injury in 2001-02. He missed the final 14 games of the regular season with a left hand fracture (3/24/02-4/17/02) but returned for the First Round of the playoffs versus Boston. In addition, he missed training camp and the first five games of the season following right elbow surgery on Sept. 25, 2001, two games with a left thumb sprain (12/7/01 and 12/8/01) and one game with a sprained right toe (2/17/02). The 76ers finished 7-15 without him in the line up last season and are 22-34 during his career when he does not play.
The 76ers will close camp on Monday, Oct. 7 and play San Antonio at the Bryce Jordan Center on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. before returning to Philadelphia.
