76ers Place Allen Iverson on the Injured List, Activate Samuel Dalembert

PHILADELPHIA, PA - March 24, 2002 - Sixers General Manager Billy King announced Sun., March 24, 2002 that the 76ers have placed guard Allen Iverson (left hand fracture) on the injured list and activated center Samuel Dalembert.

Iverson suffered a fracture of the left second metacarpal when Boston’s Tony Battie hit Iverson’s hand with 7:01 to play in the first quarter at Boston on March 22. He is expected to miss four-to-six weeks. The 6-0 guard is currently leading the NBA in scoring (31.4 ppg), steals (2.80 spg) and minutes (43.7 mpg) and is the only current player to rank 1st in 3 statistical categories. Iverson also ranks 19th in assists per game (5.5).

Iverson missed the first five games of the season (Oct. 30 to Nov. 8) while rehabbing from right elbow surgery. He also missed two games (Dec. 7 and Dec. 8) with a sprained left thumb as well as a game on Feb. 17 with a sprained right great toe. The Sixers are 0-8 in games without Iverson this season. In his career, Iverson has missed 42 games, including a Playoff game, due to injuries and suspensions, and the Sixers are 15-27 without him in the line-up.

Dalembert was placed on the injured list on March 1 with left knee bursitis and has missed the last 12 games. He has played in 28 games this season, averaging 1.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 5.1 minutes per game. The 2001 first round draft pick had also been placed on the injured list from Oct. 29 to Dec. 3 with left knee tendinitis.
