PHILADELPHIA, PA - Nov. 7, 2002 - 76ers All-Star guard Allen Iverson will be listed as day-to-day with a right thumb sprain. Iverson sustained the injury on the final play of regulation in the Sixers’ 101-99 overtime win versus the Los Angeles Clippers at the First Union Center on Nov. 6, 2002.

“Allen had an MRI today which demonstrated a sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament and a small incomplete fracture of his right thumb,” 76ers team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy said. “He will stay in a splint and be examined daily.”

During training camp on Oct. 4, 2002, Iverson suffered a fracture of his right third finger and missed the Sixers’ first preseason game on Oct. 8 versus San Antonio. He was expected to miss two-to-four weeks with the injury, but returned to practice on Oct. 9 and played at Washington on Oct. 10.

In 2001-02, Iverson missed 22 games due to injury. He missed the final 14 games of the regular season with a left hand fracture (3/24/02-4/17/02) but returned for the First Round of the playoffs versus Boston. In addition, he missed training camp and the first five games of the season following right elbow surgery on Sept. 25, 2001, two games with a left thumb sprain (12/7/01 and 12/8/01) and one game with a sprained right great toe (2/17/02). All told, Iverson has missed 56 regular season and playoff games in his career due to injury or suspension.

Iverson, who led the NBA in scoring in 2001-02 (31.4 points per game) for the second-straight season and third time in four seasons, is averaging a team-best 28.8 points (third NBA), 5.0 assists (tied 20th NBA) and 2.25 steals (tied 10th NBA) in 43.0 minutes (third NBA) per game, while shooting 36.1 percent from the field in 2002-03.
