PHILADELPHIA 76ERS
v INDIANA PACERS

Matchup History

Historically speaking, the Philadelphia 76ers hold a commanding advantage over the Indiana Pacers. In the 195 regular season contests between the teams, the 76ers boast a 110-85 record.

The rivalry dates back to 1976 when the Pacers joined the NBA as a result of the ABA-NBA merger. That year, George McGinnis, who had previously played for Indiana in the ABA, was named All-NBA First Team in his debut season with the Sixers. In his three seasons with the team, he was selected to two NBA All-Star games and was joined on the roster by other ABA alumni, Julius Erving and Caldwell Jones. In 1977, he averaged 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in the playoffs, helping to lead the 76ers to an Eastern Conference Championship.

McGinnis is one of six Hall of Fame players, others including Alex English, Reggie Miller, and Chris Mullin, who played multiple seasons for the Pacers, contributing to the history between these two teams.

During the 2022-23 season the Sixers and Pacers faced off on four occasions, with the 76ers sweeping the series 4-0. Tyrese Maxey and De’Anthony Melton both accomplished career milestones against Indiana, with Maxey scoring his 1,000th field goal made and Melton recording his 1,000th rebound. In their final matchup of the season on March 18, Embiid and Maxey combined for 62 points against the Pacers, leading the Sixers to their 141-121 victory over the Pacers.

In the 2023-24 season, the 76ers faced the Pacers in three games. The first two games were back-to-back at home in South Philadelphia, with a series split. In their first game on November 12, the Sixers were victorious against the Pacers, with the help of Tyrese Maxey who scored a career-high 50 points! The 76ers lost in a close second matchup against the Pacers. Their final matchup of the season on January 25 resulted in a 134-122 Sixers loss.
