76ers Basketball on Comcast SportsNet was honored with three Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award nominations when the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced its award nominees on August 18. The three nominations were "Outstanding Live Sports Coverage/Series", as well as 76ers TV broadcaster Marc Zumoff being nominated for "Outstanding Individual Achievement - Sports Play By Play or Color", and Zumoff and 76ers Senior Director of Broadcasting Shawn Oleksiak being among those nominated for "Outstanding Sports Feature - Michael Jeffery Jordan".

This year marked the 10th consecutive season that 76ers basketball telecasts received an Emmy Award nomination. Over 70 of the Sixers regular-season games were broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet and UPN 57 during the 2003-2004 season. Play-by-play man Marc Zumoff and his partner, color analyst Steve Mix were there at each of the games to provide non-stop game coverage.

Oleksiak, who serves as executive producer of 76ers telecasts, was thrilled about the nominations.

"We're incredibly proud of our collaborative efforts with Comcast Sportsnet to provide the region with high quality, entertaining television," Oleksiak said. "Using the latest in technologies, the production value is extremely high, and it is pleasing to be recognized by NATAS for our efforts."

Zumoff, whose voice has become synonymous with Sixers basketball, hopes to add an eighth Emmy to his collection; he has been honored as the Outstanding Sports Play by Play announcer for seven of the past 11 years. Zumoff has been a member of the Sixers broadcast team for 22 years, moving into the play-by-play seat 10 years ago.

"Marc is tremendous. His hard work, dedication, and knowledge of the television medium shines through on a nightly basis." Oleksiak said of Zumoff's nominations. "We're thrilled he is achieving this well deserved recognition. It is rewarding to work with Marc, he is always striving for all of us to improve."

Oleksiak has overseen the last 10 seasons of Sixers broadcasts, which have all garnered Emmy nominations. He is also a five-time Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award Winner himself.

The special "Michael Jeffery Jordan" focused on Michael Jordan's final NBA game played on April 17, 2003, at the Wachovia Center. A lot of planning went into the special, which Oleksiak considers one of the highlights of his time spent producing Sixers telecasts.

"The opportunity and privilege to have televised the final night in the career of the game's biggest name and greatest player remains an honor and leaves the fondest of memories," he said. "It's great news to hear the night was such a positive television viewing experience."

The winners will be announced at a gala to be held at the Philadelphia Marriott on September 18.
