Second Round, 37th pick of the 2001 Draft by the 76ers
Draft Night Memories With Damone Brown
Damone Brown (Syracuse, '01) was the 37th pick in the second round of the 2001 NBA Draft of the 76ers. Sixers.com caught up with Brown at the Sixers practice facility and discussed his memories of the 2001 draft.
Sixers.com: What are your memories leading up to the night you were drafted?
I had a nervous excitement, just seeing where I would end up. I just happened to come to Philly. It was a great place for me and a great situation. I was very excited last year, but I was also very nervous.
How do you think you performed in your pre-draft workouts?
I worked out for like 11-12 teams. I think for the most part they went pretty well. I think I did pretty well at all of them. It was a great experience for me.
Who were you with when you heard you name called in the draft?
I was with a couple of my friends that I went to school with in New York City. Some of my family members were down there, just waiting to see what happened.
What was your reaction when you heard your name called as the 37th pick?
Just sitting there watching everybody get drafted, then to have your name finally called- it was big relief. I was just very happy.
What advice would you give to this year’s draft prospects?
Play your hardest, go hard at everything they (coaches) ask you to do, give a 110 percent and just go out there and play. Don’t be nervous, just go out there and play your game. That’s what got you to the workout, so just keep doing what you are doing.
