can bring a hush to a new level.

night in what became an impressive 93-89 victory over the Dallas

could have played the previous night in New Orleans.
3.

Rookie Challenge As the No. 9 pick in the NBA draft, the only

Rookie All-Star roster.

4.

O'Brien couldn't help but marvel at the many ways the 76ers' all-star
could score.
5.
Philadelphia Inquirer- Governors make a healthy, musical bet

on the Feb. 6 Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Eagles.

Sixers Headlines -
January 27, 2005 1. Philadelphia Daily News -- Green tries his best to
imitate Iverson Wilt vs. Russell. Doctor J vs. Bird. Magic vs.
Michael. LeBron vs. Melo. Basketball is a wonderful team game, but, as
marketed by the NBA, it sometimes seems as if its avowed purpose is to
create a series of one-on-one confrontations involving its superstars. So
it might be expected that a sizable portion of the 17,050 spectators at
the MCI Center for last night's game wanted to see the 76ers' Allen
Iverson go head to head with the Washington Wizards' emerging standout,
Gilbert Arenas.
2. Philadelphia Inquirer -- Without Iverson, Sixers fall on
road
Willie Green scored 32 points filling in for the injured
star. Gilbert Arenas led the Wizards with 33.

The 76ers played without their star Wednesday night, but it
wasn't the absence of Allen Iverson that doomed the team. With Iverson out
with a strained left rotator cuff, Willie Green picked up the slack.
6. Delaware County Daily Times- Rotator cuff injury keeps
Iverson out
Allen Iverson made the trip to Washington with the
76ers, but he arrived at the MCI Center in street clothes and remained in
them. Iverson, who had an MRI Tuesday, has a strained left rotator cuff
and is listed as day-to-day. From Washington, the Sixers travel to New
Orleans for a game Friday then go on to Dallas for a game Saturday.
7. Calkins Newspapers- Shortcomings add up to defeat
If Wednesday night's game was reduced to a mathematical
formula, it would be: too many turnovers plus too many offensive rebounds
allowed equal a Sixers' loss.

than the success the Washington Wizards are enjoying.

magic SHAQUILLE O'NEAL'S introduction to Philadelphia included
moments that were as sublime as they were ridiculous

Kenny
Thomas. Thomas has grown in confidence with his jumper from just inside
the arc, and the numbers bear that out. In three games last week, the

percent) and averaged 18.0 points in a 2-1 week.
3.Philadelphia Inquirer-- 76ers pleased with Dalembert

football.
4.Delaware
Daily Times-- Sixers: Iverson still misses playing football
Allen Iverson will have mixed feelings Sunday when the Eagles

for O'Brien The rookie had four personals with 6 minutes, 30
seconds remaining in the third quarter. And the coach said, "Play on."
2.Philadelphia Daily News -- Jackson cries foul over fine
for supposed foul language
You can't say in a family newspaper
what Marc Jackson said Monday. Not even in the Daily News. But what the
76ers center said, even though he says the NBA got it wrong, cost him a
$5,000 fine levied yesterday by league vice president Stu Jackson.
3.Philadelphia Inquirer-- Sixers grind out victory over
expansion Bobcats
These seem to be the tougher games for the
76ers, the ones that come against the NBA's have-nots, when they are
supposed to wrap things up early and then laugh it up on the bench during
garbage time.
4.Philadelphia Inquirer-- Jackson protests $5,000 NBA fine
The NBA levied a $5,000 fine yesterday against 76ers center
Marc Jackson, saying Jackson directed "an obscenity toward fans" early in
the third quarter of Monday's game against New Orleans at the Wachovia
Center.
5.Daily Local News-- Jackson to appeal obscenity fine

for allegedly directing an obscenity to a fan.
6.Daily Local News-- Sixers hold off expansion Bobcats
When you hear expansion team it's only natural to think
doormat.
7.Calkins Newspapers-- Faithful follower
Jim
O'Brien isn't the most demonstrative coach in professional sports. Fans
typically see him calling out instructions to his Sixers players, intently
watching the action from a standing or crouching courtside position and
examining statistics as he takes a drink of water during every timeout.
8.Associated Press--Sixers hang on, edge Charlotte
Allen Iverson slowly dribbled the ball, letting the clock run
down before he attempted what could have been the game-sealing basket.
Sixers Headlines -
January 19, 2005 1. Philadelphia Daily News -- Harter recalls Charlotte days
fondly Dick Harter knows it's a story, but he wonders what the
story really is. The 76ers are preparing for their first visit to
Charlotte to face the expansion Bobcats tonight.
2. Philadelphia Inquirer -- 'Big Nasty' looking nice to
O'Brien and the Sixers
While Allen Iverson has logged
48-minute games and Kenny Thomas has seen a scoring and rebounding surge,
Corliss Williamson quietly has been playing his most consistent basketball
of the season for the 76ers.
3. Delaware County Times-- Sixers: Dalembert's return gives
the first-place Sixers hope
Now that the 76ers have grabbed a
share of first place, they want to hold onto it. To do that, they'll have
to win on the road -- again.
4. Calkins Newspapers-- Shooting guards can't pull trigger
Lately, the Sixers' shooting guards seem alternately unwilling
or unable to shoot the ball.
5. Camden Courier Post-- Sixers struggling at shooting
guard
The 76ers have a bit of a problem. Allen Iverson is now
the team's point guard, yet he remains the team's best shooting guard.
6. Press of Atlantic City-- Sixers among Eagles' biggest
fans
When the Philadelphia 76ers plane touched down around 2
a.m. Sunday morning, only hours removed from a Saturday night loss in
Detroit, coach Jim O'Brien reminded everyone practice was in nine hours.
Sixers Headlines -
January 18, 2005 1. Philadelphia Daily News -- Williamson, Thomas making big
contributions The big story in yesterday's 76ers victory,
other than a near-total collapse in the fourth quarter, was a small one.
It was coach Jim O'Brien going against the odds with three players listed
at 6-7 making up his frontcourt down the stretch.
2. Philadelphia Daily News -- 'Ugly' one way of describing
victory
THE SINGLE STEP up to the podium for his postgame
meeting with reporters was a dead giveaway. Allen Iverson could just about
make it, exhaling as he slumped into a seat in front of the microphones,
tape recorders and cameras.
3.Philadelphia Inquirer -- After dismal game, Sixers still
fit for first
Despite nearly wasting a 25-point lead, they
beat the Hornets to tie the Knicks and Celtics atop the Atlantic Division.
4.Philadelphia Inquirer -- O'Brien: Resting Iverson breaks
momentum
There may be a day on the horizon when 76ers coach
Jim O'Brien takes Allen Iverson out of the game for a breather. But it may
not happen any time soon.
5. Daily Local News -- There are records and then there are
records.
Until recently winning three games, the New Orleans
Hornets were on pace to grab one of the most infamous, the 9-73 mark of
the 1972-73 76ers.
6. Daily Local News --Sixers nearly let big lead slip away
When Allen Iverson hit a 3-pointer to put the 76ers ahead by
25 at the start of the fourth quarter, the team's 17th win looked like a
sure thing.
7.Calkins Newspapers-- Sixers survive Hornets' 4th-quarter
swarm
Kyle Korver called it "a basketball nightmare." That
summed up the Sixers' fourth quarter Monday afternoon at the Wachovia
Center.

struggles
Twice, he coached the New Jersey Nets to the NBA
Finals during his tenure there. He won three NBA championships as a player
with the Los Angeles Lakers.

chunk of first place never looked so good to a team with as mediocre a
record as the Sixers.
13.Wilmington News Journal-- 76ers hold on, move into tie

the New Orleans Hornets on Monday.
14.Wilmington News Journal-- 76ers adapting to all A.I.,

16.Press of Atlantic City-- Sixers, even at 17-20, share
first in Atlantic
The Philadelphia 76ers could point to a lot
of positives Monday after they beat the New Orleans Hornets 95-91 at
Wachovia Center. The fourth quarter wasn't one of them.
Sixers Headlines -
January 17, 2005 1. Philadelphia Daily News -- Woeful Hornets
Some records, Fred Carter was saying in a recent visit to the
Wachovia Center, were never meant to be broken: Wilt Chamberlain's
100-point game, Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak...
2. Philadelphia Inquirer -- Hornets have example of how it
isn't done
When Fred Carter was named most valuable player of
the 76ers for the 1972-73 season, he was reluctant at first to accept the
award. But after long deliberation, Carter, who averaged 20 points per
game that season, grudgingly relented.
3.Philadelphia Inquirer -- A.I. misses Carter on Toronto
Few 76ers fans will forget the stirring duel between Allen
Iverson and Toronto's Vince Carter in the 2001 Eastern Conference
semifinals, which the Sixers pulled out with a one-point victory in Game
7. Carter is no longer a member of the Raptors, having been traded last
month to New Jersey. And Iverson said playing a Toronto team without
Carter is a "big difference."
4.Philadelphia Inquirer -- Youth will be served in the

running in place, taking one step forward and one step backward on a
seemingly unending climb to the .500 mark.

As the NBA season heads to the halfway point, Andre Iguodala
is feeling it.

lineup
Jim O'Brien played "small ball" Friday and Saturday. As
a result, the 76ers earned one big victory and nearly rallied to surprise
the Pistons for another.
7. Camden Courier Post -- Rookie Iguodala perfect fit with
76ers
You get the feeling that Sixers guard Allen Iverson
doesn't mind sharing initials with teammate Andre Iguodala, a talented
rookie guard/forward. Asked following a recent practice what he thought
about Iguodala's play and progress, Iverson grinned. Respect from one A.I.
to another.
Sixers Headlines -
January 14, 2005 1. Philadelphia Daily News -- Under the weather Sixers
grounded in Chicago following loss to Bulls These were the
daze of their lives. The 76ers couldn't even go home after Wednesday
night's 110-78 loss to the Chicago Bulls. Instead, they went back to their
hotel headquarters, waiting until the fog cleared at Philadelphia
International Airport.
2. Philadelphia Inquirer -- Sixers get a good spanking
Give the Chicago Bulls credit for not wanting to rub salt into
a wounded 76ers team
3. Delaware County Daily Times -- Sixers: Shootarounds are
central to success
When the 76ers didn't get out of Chicago
after Wednesday's game because of fog, they canceled Thursday's practice.
That doesn't mean they won't get plenty of prep work before meeting
Toronto tonight at the Wachovia Center (7 p.m., CSN). While most NBA teams
hold shootarounds on the morning of a night game, 76ers coach Jim O'Brien
refuses to waste time in the gym doing nothing but a walkthrough.
4. Calkins Newspapers-- Shoot-arounds not same for Sixers
Shoot-arounds in Kyle Korver's rookie NBA season typically
consisted of a late-afternoon walkthrough and watching some film of that
night's opponent
5. Courier Post -- After solid road trip, Sixers are
struggling
The 76ers were grounded in Chicago after their game
against the Bulls on Wednesday night, unable to fly out on schedule due to
fog in the Philadelphia area.
Sixers Headlines -
January 13, 2005
1.
Philadelphia Daily News -- Sixers get blown away in Windy City
Turn enough corners, perhaps the 76ers eventually will find
their way through the maze that is the NBA's 82-game regular-season
schedule. So far, they've found nothing but dead ends.
2.
Philadelphia Daily News -- O'Brien views Sixers' shootaround as quality
time
Shootaround? So much for tradition. Jim O'Brien, in his
first season as the 76ers' coach, has transformed what had usually been a
light, get-loose, shoot-a-little workout into the equivalent of a
full-blown practice. Maybe not so long, but long enough to be effective
and productive.
3.
Philadelphia Inquirer -- Revitalized Bulls stampede past the Sixers
After losing their first nine games of the season, the Chicago
Bulls seemed headed to a path traveled only by the downtrodden New Orleans
Hornets. Yet the team that was the laughingstock early in the NBA season
is no joke anymore.
4.
Philadelphia Inquirer -- Dalembert's hip strain leaves his team stuck in
the middle
The 76ers had a shortage in the middle last night
because of a left hip strain to center Samuel Dalembert. Even though he
made the trip for the game at the United Center against the Chicago Bulls,
Dalembert did not suit up. He is listed as day-to-day.
5.
Philadelphia Inquirer -- Inqlings|A good sole
Allen Iverson
made friends before Monday's 76ers game at the Wachovia Center. Trenton
Yoder, 15, of Dover, Del., was courtside at the invitation of Comcast
SportsNet senior vice president Stephanie Smith. (The teen had stayed at
the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, and Smith is on the house's
board.)
6.
Daily Local News -- Sixers routed by young Bulls
A bad start
can sometimes doom a team to doormat status in the NBA. Just a year ago,
the Orlando Magic won their first game then lost their next 19. Long
before that streak ended, they were dead and buried. The Chicago Bulls are
cast from a different mold. After losing the first nine games of the
season, and giving New Orleans a serious run for last NBA team to win a
game, the Bulls have turned it around.
7.
Delaware County Times -- O'Brien says he sees progress
Sixers
coach Jim O'Brien isn't one to sweat a game here or there. He's more of a
big picture kind of guy. Recently, despite a poor outing here or there,
he's begun to like what he's seeing from his team.
8.
Calkins Newspapers -- Sixers suffer 3rd straight loss
Jim
O'Brien is confident the Sixers will eventually "turn the corner" this
season. Given the Sixers' number of young players and the difficulty teams
have had adapting to O'Brien's defensive system in his first year as a
coach, he said it can take time for that to happen.
9.
Calkins Newspapers -- Strained left hip shelves Dalembert
Samuel Dalembert made the trip with his teammates, but he
couldn't play against the Bulls Wednesday night.
9.
Associated Press -- Sixers routed by streaking Bulls
Ben
Gordon got so weary in the first half from chasing Allen Iverson, he asked
to come out of the game to catch his breath. Gordon had enough energy left
in the fourth quarter last night to put on a shooting display, and the
surging Chicago Bulls pulled away and routed the Sixers, 110-78, for their
fifth straight win.
Sixers Headlines -
January 12, 2005 1.
Philadelphia Daily News -- A.I., O'Brien not at odds over playing time
In case you were wondering, 76ers star guard Allen Iverson is
not annoyed with coach Jim O'Brien for removing him early in the fourth
quarter during the lopsided loss to Portland Monday evening. Iverson might
have been upset during his news conference afterward at not playing again,
but it was ancient history by practice yesterday at Philadelphia College
of Osteopathic Medicine.
2.
Philadelphia Inquirer -- O'Brien: Pulling Iverson was right
A
day after pulling Allen Iverson for the final 10 minutes, 22 seconds of a
109-100 loss to the visiting Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night, 76ers
coach Jim O'Brien was adamant yesterday in his belief that he had made the
right decision.
3. Philadelphia
Inquirer -- Opportunity knocks for Sixers... but will they take advantage?
After the coach with the genius-within mentality benched his
mercurial star Monday night, there was something swirling around the
Wachovia Center. It certainly wasn't euphoria, because the 76ers lost. It
may have been controversy, since Allen Iverson was far from happy.
4.
Delaware County Daily Times --Sixers: O'Brien says he's fine with Allen's
outburst
Allen Iverson wasn't a happy camper after being
yanked Monday night from the Sixers' game against Portland early in the
fourth quarter. But given the same situation again, Sixers coach Jim
O'Brien said Tuesday he'd do the same thing. He also wasn't bothered by
Iverson going public with his dissatisfaction as he did after the game.
5.
Calkins Newspapers -- O'Brien, Iverson on same page
Jim
O'Brien needed to have a talk with Allen Iverson. The subject was somewhat
touchy - it involved Iverson's playing time.
6.
Courier Post -- Iverson, O'Brien make peace
