Dave Coskey Bio
With more than 21 years experience in the fields of sports and entertainment, Executive Vice President Dave Coskey has played a large part in the resurgence of the 76ers organization not just in Philadelphia, but in the NBA.
During his tenure, Coskey has played an integral role in the area of attendance enhancement. Over the past seven seasons, the team has increased its overall attendance by 64.9 percent. In 2001-02, the Sixers had franchise records for total 842,976, average 20,560 attendance and sellouts 25. With their march to the NBA Finals in 2001, the Sixers surpassed the million-fan mark for the first time in its history. In 2002-03, Philadelphia sold-out 14 games and ranked fourth in the NBA for home attendance with an average 19,685 fans per game. In the season-finale against Washington (4/16/03), a crowd of 21,127 fans witnessed Michael Jordan’s final NBA game, the second largest home crowd ever.
Much of this success can be attributed to the creativity that has become a cornerstone of the Sixers’ marketing and promotional efforts. Innovative giveaways like the Allen Iverson Celebriduck and the 76ers Pet Rock, extraordinary game presentation, and a high-energy atmosphere at the First Union Center have created a great environment for Sixers fans.
Coskey was elevated to the position of Executive Vice President on July 25, 2001, after spending his first three seasons as vice president of marketing and operations with the 76ers. He was promoted to senior vice president in August 1999.
Although still responsible for overseeing the team’s overall marketing, promotions, radio and television broadcasts, advertising sales, public relations, community relations, fan relations and game operations departments, Coskey is now also be responsible for the entire business operations and financial aspects of the team. Additionally, in September of 1999, Coskey was chosen by his peers to serve on the NBA’s Marketing Advisory Board. Coskey served as vice president of marketing at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino before becoming a principal in MediaWorks Communications, an award-winning advertising, public relations and video production firm located in Linwood, NJ.
The recipient of numerous awards for achievement in the fields of advertising and public relations while at MediaWorks, Coskey played a key role in marketing of Seles-Navratilova tennis match, named sports marketing event of the year in 1995 by Brandweek Magazine, as well as several of the top-grossing pay-per-view television events of all-time including Holyfield vs. Foreman and the Howard Stern New Year’s Eve special. He is currently in the midst of his second stint with the Sixers, having previously served as the team’s director of public relations and assistant director of marketing from 1986-1988.
A graduate of Villanova University, Coskey received the “Alumni Medal for Outstanding Achievement” from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2001. He and his wife Monica currently reside in Avalon, N.J., along with their three sons David, Michael and Stephen.
