Sixers Sign Rookie Sam Clancy To A Contract
PHILADELPHIA, PA - July 18, 2002 - Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Billy King announced today that the Sixers have signed 2002 NBA Draft selection Sam Clancy to a contract. Per team policy, terms are not released. Clancy, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward, was selected by the Sixers with the 45th overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft. He played four seasons at USC from 1998-99 to 2001-02 where he averaged 14.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 113 games. Clancy finished his Trojan career as the all-time leader in blocked shots (195), third in points (1,657), second in rebounding (839) and fifth in steals (134).
Originally an early entry candidate for the 2001 NBA Draft, he withdrew his name from consideration prior to the draft. As a senior, Clancy was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year, Second Team All-America by The Associated Press and a Naismith Award Finalist. In 2001-02, he led USC in scoring (19.1 ppg), rebounding (9.4 rpg, 30th in nation), field goal percentage (.494), blocks (1.5 bpg) and was second in steals (1.8 spg). He is currently rehabbing from a left knee injury.
