Aloha Sixers

The Summer is a chance for players to add and refine dimensions of their game and for two members of the Philadelphia 76ers that means taking their games as well as bodies to Hawaii.

Hawaii ? I know you're thinking about vacation already - but for centers Alvin Jones and Samuel Dalembert this trip to the Aloha State is for business more than for pleasure, as both will be attending the renown Pete Newell Big Man Camp from August 12-16th.

Jones and Dalembert will be joined by 25 NBA players representing 10 NBA teams. The emphasis of the camp is big man skills, low post moves, and footwork, with rookies and younger players trying to gain skills and knowledge through repetition. This years participants include 2001 No. 1 overall draft pick Kwame Brown of Washington, Philadelphia native and current San Antoino Spur Malik Rose, and 2002 first rounders Nikloz Tskitshvilli, Nene Hilario (Denver) and Mike Dunleavy, Jr..

The big men will pick up knowledge from some of basketball's greatest minds including former 76er Marc Iavaroni, current Denver GM Kiki Vandeweghe, and current Detroit head coach Rick Carlisle.

Former players at Newell's camp read like a NBA All-Star list with previous participants including Philadelphia native Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Scottie Pippen, Hakeem Olajuwon, Bernard King, Bill Walton, Chris Mullin, Clifford Robinson, Rick Fox and Shaquille O'Neal.

With one season and a big man camp under their belts, centers Jones and Dalembert will bring more experience back to the Sixers bench with hopes of contributing more in their second season.
