Sixers All-Star Promotions Line-Up for 2001-2002
The 76ers have formed an All-Star line-up of giveaways and promotional nights throughout the 2001-02 season. Families and kids had a blast at an assortment of 76ers games during the
remainder of the season.
“In addition to the fun and excitement that the team provides on the floor, we try to provide that same atmosphere for our fans with our giveaways and promotional nights,” said Lara White, 76ers senior vice president. “We’ve partnered with names and products that are familiar to the consumer. Those products communicate two messages: fun to children and value to their parents.”
The fun began when the 76ers hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers on Fri., Nov. 23. All fans received a commemorative 76ers Eastern Conference Champion Card Sheet by Fleer*. The 8-by-10 glossy card sheet featured Allen Iverson, Eric Snow, Dikembe Mutombo, Aaron McKie and Head Coach Larry Brown as well as a team card in a salute to the 2001 Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference Championship.
On Moses Malone Bobblehead Night, the newly inducted Basketball Hall of Famer and former Sixers great was the focus of the team’s giveaway
on Sun., Dec. 2nd when the Sixers hosted the Memphis Grizzlies. In keeping
with the Bobblehead craze that the Sixers captured last season with the
Allen Iverson Bobblehead, Malone has his own Bobblehead likeness.
The ceramic Bobblehead - just tap his head and watch him nod in
affirmation - is a one-of-a-kind collectible, like those sold at sports
venues in the 1960s and 1970s. Produced by Alexander Global Promotions
of Bellevue, WA, it was given to the first 5,000 fans through the
gates. The Malone Bobblehead giveaway was sponsored by Dodge. A limited
edition Fleer* trading card accompanied each Malone Bobblehead.
Comcast presented Nickelodeon Night when the
Sixers hosted the Milwaukee Bucks on Fri., Dec. 14th. The extremely
popular Nickelodeon Night, complete with popular Nickelodeon characters,
including “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” which opened in theaters on Dec.
21, 2001. There was lots of prizes and giveaways throughout the
evening related to the cartoon.
During the holiday season, the first 5,000 fans on Fri.,
Dec. 21st against the Atlanta Hawks received a 76ers Snow Globe,
courtesy of PENN Orthopaedics. The Snow Globe featured a miniature First
Union Center that was cascaded by “snowflakes” when shaken.
The highly
anticipated next generation of Allen Iverson collectibles floated
into the First Union Center for the 76ers San Antonio contest on Fri.,
Jan. 11th with the Allen Iverson Celebriduck. Following the
webbed-footsteps of the original Celebriducks, Betty Boop and Groucho
Marx, the Allen Iverson Celebriduck was the first current pro athlete to
be produced by Celebriducks. Presented by Reebok*, the first 5,000 kids
14 and under through the gate received the limited edition toy that
is sure to capture the next collectible craze like the two Alien Iverson
Meanies plush dolls and the Iverson Bobblehead did the last three years.
The first 5,000 kids 14 and under at the 76ers Mon., Jan. 21st games
versus the Seattle SuperSonics got their own 76ers lunchbox. The sleek, shiny black
metal lunchboxes featured a screened photo of the 76ers Eastern
Conference Championship trophy. Each lunchbox was packed with
goodies, including a book, “Yesterday’s Heroes,” that chronicles the
history of African-American superstars in the NBA by Daily News
columnist John N. Smallwood, Jr. In addition, the Sixers partnered
with Crayola* to put Multi-Cultural Crayola* Crayons in the lunchbox,
plus other great gifts.
Of course, Valentines Day would not be complete without a 76ers halftime
wedding. In what has become a Valentines Day favorite for hopeless
romantics everywhere, the Sixers helped to marry 76 couples at center
court during halftime of the Thu., Feb. 14th game versus the Utah Jazz.
Not only did the 76ers give away the Moses Malone Bobblehead, but All-Star center Dikembe Mutombo also had his own special ceramic creation. The first 5,000 kids 14 and under were able to recreate Dikembe Mutombo’s infamous finger wagging with a specially created Bobblehead doll. Not only does Dikembe’s head bob, but his left arm is spring loaded to recreate his finger wagging “Not in My House” gesture that has been banned by the NBA for taunting.
The 76ers are partnered with Crayola on Friday, March 8th - with the new Crayola/76ers Kids Activity Book - 12 pages of cool fun, games and coloring as only Crayola can do. It was free to the first 5,000 kids 14 and under and courtesy of our friends at Reebok.
You remember Toucan Sam from those great Kellogg’s Fruit Loops commercials and on Sunday, March 24th everyone in attendance took home a miniature 3 inch plush version of Toucan Sam when the Sixers took on the Knicks.
The 76ers had another great giveaway with a replica Speedy Claxton youth jersey compliments of AT&T Wireless. The first 5,000 kids 14 and under through the doors on Mar 31 in the game versus the Toronto Raptors received the jersey.

the first 5,000 kids 14 and under their own Matchbox* 76ers Fire Truck
at the Sat., Jan. 19th game versus the New York Knicks. Matchbox*
produces scaled, miniature replicas of die-cast vehicles. The company
traces its inception to 1952 when Jack Odell created a brass prototype
of a small Road Roller and put it in a matchbox-sized container so his
daughter could take it to school. Matchbox* is celebrating its 50th
Anniversary this year. |
| Everyone in attendance for the Sixers vs. Lakers game on Sunday, January 27th, received a 76ers Commemorative Poster compliments of PECO Energy. The free poster featured Allen Iverson, Aaron McKie, Dikembe Mutombo and Coach Brown commemorating the Sixers incredible 2000-2001 season. | ![]() |
