Lakers - 106 Sixers - 101 - December 21, 2007 - Wachovia Center

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks
On tonights game...
"It was a hard fought game.  The first half, obviously, Andrew Bynum hurt us and one of the things we talked about is trying to limit his dives to the rim.  In the first half, we didn’t do a good job of that and in the second half, we obviously did a better job.  They’re a good basketball team, where they swing the ball and have shooters spread around the floor and the type of guys they have; they have long guys, Lamar Odom, long guys who can put the ball on the floor, make plays inside the paint.  They have a lot of guys that can handle the basketball, but I thought our second half was pretty good.  The first half was just ok.  I thought the way they hurt us in the first half was obviously with Andrew Bynum, with his drives to the rim, and once we took that away, it allowed a lot of guys to open up, get a lot of open threes.  When the game gets close in the second half and you have a player like Kobe Bryant, who can get to the foul line, who can make shots, it puts a lot of pressure on your defense."

On the Sixers’ defensive effort on Kobe Bryant:
"I think our defense was ok on Kobe.  Like I said, I think when it gets down to where they (the Lakers) need a basket and they have a guy like Kobe who can get to the rim, who can get foul shots, who can get fouled, I think that’s the important part, even though when you have a player like him who might shoot 6 for 20, when he has time to get to the rim or make a pass, I think that’s what happened.  I think it was a four-point game, five-point game, and he had the ball in his hands and we had to make the decision if we were going to help on him or do you give someone else a shot.  We ended up getting (Derek) Fisher a shot and Kobe gets three foul shots."

On the play of Samuel Dalembert...
"Sam’s been very good the last two games.  Rebounding the ball, keeping the middle of the paint clogged up.  He does what he does; he rebounds the ball, blocks shots, I think Sam’s been very good.  He had a tough guard, even thought the guy’s (Andrew Bynum’s) a young center, he had a tough guard.  Sam is guarding the guy one-on-one and when he steps out to help, that’s when he (Andrew Bynum) turns and goes to the rim.  Overall, I think Sam did a nice job."

Philadelphia 76ers Forward Andre Iguodala
On Andrew Bynum’s performance tonight:
"He played well. I wasn’t surprised. You’ve got a kid who’s 7-feet tall. He can get up on the court. He’s got coordination. If you’ve got coordination and you’re tall you are going to succeed."

On tonight's game...
"We’ve just got to keep moving forward. We’ve lost tough games. There have been small minor errors that we can change. We need to change and improve as each game goes on. We just try to come out and play hard, bring energy every night, and play for ourselves no matter how many people are out there."

Impression of Kobe Bryant tonight...
"He got to the foul line when he needed to. He got free throws and he got to the basket. He got a lot of crucial points down the stretch when he needed baskets. Even if he didn’t shoot well he was still very effective for his team. You have to try make him take tough shots. You aren’t going shut down guys like him. The main thing is to make them work hard for everything."

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Willie Green
On his team’s offense tonight...
"I think sometimes we have a tendency to put a little pressure on Sam to block everything. We’ve got to do a better job of getting to guys and not letting them get to the basket so easily. It was just one of those games where defensively they just got to the basket time after time. We just didn’t have any answers for it. We can’t let that happen, but tonight they were the better team."

On the amount of turnovers in the game...
"We’ve got to bounce back up. Tonight we had some mistakes on defense. We understand that we can win most of the games we play. We’ve got to play very good basketball. For the most part we did a good job on Kobe it was the other guys who stepped up and played real big. You’ve got to tip your hat off to them and just correct the things that you didn’t do well."

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Samuel Dalembert
On the interior play...
"I wouldn’t say it was the roughest. It was up there. The interior defense wasn’t our best today and we couldn’t stop anything. It’s not like they were killing us with posting. It was simple basic things that we couldn’t stop. "

On tomorrow’s game in Memphis
...
"We have to go in tomorrow and stay focused. We have to try and get the win."

Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson
On tonight's game...
"We got the ball in people’s hands and they delivered.  Lamar (Odom) and Fish (Derek Fisher) were able to deliver tonight, and Kobe (Bryant) at the end of the game, obviously, is the guy who can handle t he end of the games. "

On Kobe's performance...
"I only noticed him having trouble getting back on defense: running on offense and then getting back on defense.  I saw he couldn’t run very quickly after turnovers."

On Andrew Bynum...
"Well the kind of shots he had were pretty easy.  In the first half, he made two field goals that were good moves.  The second half, he had a left-handed hook.  Those things are bonuses for him.  He’s such a long, lanky guy that he’s got the ability to go up and get the ball at almost any height. "

Lakers Center Andrew Bynum
On the difference between his free-throws from last night to tonight...
"I didn’t think about it, actually.  I had a conversation with my brother, saying that it will either make me a career under 50% shooter or an 80% and above.  Hopefully it will be 80 (percent) and above."

On his game and bigger role on the team...
"It definitely is, my teammates looking for me, especially in the first half is nice.  I think I’m getting better and better with each game.  I try and improve something in each game.  Tonight, I shot with my left hand for the first time this season, so hopefully I can keep doing that."

Lakers Guard Kobe Bryant
On tonight's game...
"We played well, you know, decent; we had some good stops, and Andrew (Bynum) had exceptional game for us.  We’re a good team and play hard. We’re a very, very solid team, and tonight we executed.  "

On Andrew Bynum...
"His poise comes from good work ethic and having the confidence to produce and perform."
