Dec. 7 Knicks vs Sixers Post-Game Report

Post-Game Audio

Knicks: 90 Sixers: 101 - December 7, 2007 - Wachovia Center

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks
On tonight's game:
Well, I thought it was a very good game, particularly second half defense, we played very well. In the first half, we tried to get out and run, we tried to make a conscience effort of getting out on the turnovers, steals, get up and down the floor, and try and score the ball. We tried to do it on made shots as well. I thought our defense in the second half was the reason why we cleared some space. I thought Sam (Dalembert) did a nice job on Eddy Curry; he’s a tough cover because he posts the ball so well. Reggie (Evans) did a nice job on Zach Randolph, who’s a very, very tough cover. Anytime you have a two guys like that inside the paint, it’s gonna be a tough cover and I thought those two guys made conscience efforts to try to front them in the post, get some help from weak side guys, but for the most part I thought we did a nice job on those two guys. When you have two big guys like that who can score the ball, it’s tough the guard them one-on-one, but I thought those two guys did a very nice job of trying to guard them.

On the third quarter play of Lou Williams:
Yeah, when he came in the game, I think it was two or three minutes left in the third quarter and we ran a couple of plays for him, he got to the rim. That’s his strength: it’s getting to the rim, getting to the foul line. Certainly when you do that early on, it gives you the opportunity to open up your jump shot and he got to the rim early, which we had been talking about, and it opened up his jump shot. I thought he took over the game offensively and I thought Sam (Dalembert) pretty much defensively was a big reason why we were able to win this game.

On Samuel Dalembert’s leading the team in scoring:
Sam, it’s not like we run a lot of plays for him. He gets a lot of offensive rebounds; he gets passes thrown to him. When other guys get attention paid to them, he’s going down the lane. When you throw the ball to the rim, he has very good hands in terms of catching a lot of passes.

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Kyle Korver
On tonight’s win:
Anytime you win you feel like you played fairly well and it’s a good feeling. We could use a couple good feelings right about now. We didn’t have a stretch where we didn’t play hard or well. Tomorrow we are gonna have to play like we did tonight. We played hard we executed well. We had a lot of ball movement. We all played well. It wasn’t just one guy that was carrying the team.

On encouraging the team with tonight’s win:
On encouraging the team with tonight’s win:
It’s gonna take a couple of games before you start feeling really good. Tonight’s warm ups felt different. I told coach (John) Loyer that I think that I might have found something. It just felt better tonight and hopefully I carry it over tomorrow night.

Philadelphia 76ers Center Samuel Dalembert
On tonight's game:
I don’t care if I score. I just worry about my rebounding and playing solid defense.

On making a difference for the team:

I need to learn how to play. Even if I have two fouls I need to learn to stop being aggressive. My presence can make a difference. That’s something over time that coaches and I will work with. I can’t stay down, because the other will take advantage of that. You can’t let them get comfortable and find their zone.

On Lou Williams’ energy:
Every time he’s out there he plays unselfishly. He and I are making more eye contact on pick and rolls. He comes out there and plays good basketball, every time he comes out. I’m happy the way he developed so quickly. He’s just gonna continue to develop and get better every day. Defensively, he plays solid defense and he gives us what we need.

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Andre Miller
On aggressiveness throughout the game:
I just got out there and played. I think everybody did their part. We pass and get other guys involved. Then other times you have to be aggressive. It was a good game for the first 45 minutes. We had a few lapses on defense. But those guys shot the three-point shot. It was a good effort. We defended well but they had the big shots.

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Louis Williams
On aggressiveness throughout the game:
We got a good start tonight. Coming out at half time we maintained the lead and that was one of the biggest adjustments we made tonight.

On his role as the “closer”:
It’s cool. It’s cool to come in and get a spark. Andre and myself we’re kind of polar opposites with the speed that we play and I am just a great compliment to what he does. I am comfortable where I am.

On tonight’s game:
It was a conference win and tomorrow night will be the same thing. This win built confidence for everybody. It creates momentum and it’s great for our basketball team.

New York Knicks Head Coach Isiah Thomas
On the Sixer's performance:
I thought the big guys did a good job in side. (Reggie)Evans and Samuel (Dalembert) had their way with us. The scored the ball and any time the get a good scoring output from them, that’s pretty unusual. They did a good job tonight.

On Stephon Marbury not playing the second half:
He was tired. He didn’t have anything left; it was his call.

On tonight’s game:
We have to do a better job. I thought we were right there in the game. We had a couple of plays here a couple of plays there. Two different basketball games, we play them again tomorrow night and we will see what happens. I thought the guys played as hard as they could.

On Sixers win:
We didn’t make plays we normally would make. Zach (Randolph) missed a couple of easy layups inside that he normally knocks down. It just seems like we were out of rhythm, but you have to give the other team credit for getting us out of our rhythm.

On playing back to back games with the Sixers:
You don’t see it too often, but it is the way the schedule worked out. Hopefully we can get a win in our building tomorrow night.

New York Knicks Forward Zach Randolph
On tonight's game:
This was our worst game. We were inconsistent. Having a good game the other night and coming back to play a game like this. This is something I am not used to. Jamal kept us in the game making big shots, but we couldn’t pull it out.

We didn’t have any energy tonight. Guys were sluggish, I was sluggish. No one played good tonight except David (Lee) and Jamal (Crawford).

On what they have been going through:
That and the whole season, it is not just tonight. There has been a lot going on, but that is no excuse. Some guys played good tonight and we couldn’t pull it out we just have to get ready for tomorrow night.
