The Call: Fantasy Fest

They were wrapped around the block, a big block. Philly fans lined up early in the morning for our flagship radio station's first-annual Fan Fest at Xfinity Live. The radio hosts at 97.5 The Fanatic FM had talked about it for weeks, and their listeners responded. I was on hand to greet fans when doors opened at noon, and as it turns out, I'm a better picture-taker than so-called celebrity. You see, former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski was also there, and Jaws was nice enough to pose with dozens of fans for photos. I was the willing photog.

When they brought all of us on stage, I was introduced as the voice of "your 2018 NBA Champions!" That got a loud roar from the crowd. It was a pretty neat scene on a warm and sunny summer Saturday when no sporting events were taking place at the three stadiums surrounding us. The scene made me think of the city's sports fans and the intensity and vibrancy they bring to Philadelphia.

Without question they are a passionate bunch with a reputation that extends well beyond the Delaware Valley. The assembled masses at the event were just another reminder that when the Sixers start packing the Wells Fargo Center on a regular basis and the team begins to compete at the highest level, it's going to be special again.
