MCW Hits Homer Off Magic Johnson In Celebrity Softball Game

On opening night last year, Michael Carter-Williams had one of the most impressive rookie debuts in NBA history. After notching 22 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds, and nine steals in an upset victory over the defending-champion Miami Heat on October 30, the 21-year-old caught the attention of one of his idols, Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.

On Sunday, Carter-Williams again impressed the five-time NBA Champion, showing off his skills on the baseball diamond at the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Softball Classic in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The reigning Rookie of the Year was one of roughly 50 athletes and celebrities in attendance, helping raise money for the Osborne Foundation and the Pawtucket Red Sox Charitable Trust.

At one point in the game, Carter-Williams found himself face to face with the Laker Johnson, who was on the mound for the West team. The 6’6” point guard stepped up to the plate, got in his stance, and sent Johnson’s slow-pitch lob deep into the stands in left-center field for a home run, much to the delight of the New England crowd.

Luckily, Johnson took the dinger in stride, catching up with Carter-Williams after the game and posing for a picture.
