On Monday, the Sixers added a familiar face to their Orlando Pro Summer League roster, Arsalan Kazemi. The 6’7” forward appeared in five games for Philadelphia at OPSL last year after the Sixers acquired his rights during the 2013 Draft.

The Iranian-born 24-year-old had been training with his country’s National Team in preparation for the FIBA Asia Cup, but took a break to join the Sixers in Orlando.

“The Sixers are my team,” he said. “[I want to show them] that I want to join this team during the year and show them what I’ve added to my game.”

The only Iranian player ever selected in the NBA Draft, the Rice and Oregon alum spent last season playing for Iranian Super League team Petrochimi, averaging 13.1 points (59.1 FG%), 11.1 rebounds, and 2.2 steals over 19 games.

“It’s really good,” he said of the quality of the Iranian Super League. “People don’t think about it that way, but I’m pretty sure it’s one of the strongest leagues overseas. I got a lot of experience playing there.”

Kazemi noted that he will remain with the team through Friday’s OPSL finale before flying to China to represent Iran in the FIBA Asia Cup.
