Two weeks ago, Casper Ware was in Northern Italy, manning the point guard position for Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna of the Italian League. Monday, the Long Beach State alum joined the Philadelphia 76ers on a 10-day contract, giving him the opportunity to test his meddle at the NBA level.

“My agent [called] me and said, ‘I’ve got an opportunity for you… It’s a young team, and everybody’s learning…’ It’s just a privilege for me to have this chance and to get to learn with them in this league,” the 24-year-old said after his first practice with his new team Monday morning. “It’s a big opportunity for me.”

Ware, listed at 5’10” and 177 pounds, helped lead Virtus Bologna to a 15-7 start this season, averaging 11.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. But the chance to return to the United States and fight for a spot on an NBA roster made parting with the Italian club an easy decision for Ware.

“I ended up leaving [Virtus Bologna] to come her and take this opportunity. I couldn’t pass this up,” he said, smiling broadly.

With guard Tony Wroten out for at least the next two games with a sprained right ankle, Sixers head coach Brett Brown said it is possible that Ware will see his first NBA action Monday night against the 53-16 San Antonio Spurs.

That game tips at 8:30pm (EST) on The Comcast Network and 97.5 The Fanatic FM.
