Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young invited to participate in team USA’s mini-camp

Philadelphia, Pa. – June 25, 2009 – USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo, announced today that 25 players, including the Philadelphia 76ers Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young, have accepted invitations to participate in the 2009 USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp. The camp will be conducted from July 22-25 in Las Vegas, Nv.

“This is a great opportunity for both Andre and Thaddeus to represent the 76ers at the USA Basketball camp and allow them to showcase their considerable talents alongside some of the best players in the country,” said Sixers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski. “There is no doubt that their participation in the camp and the experience gained will prove to be invaluable to us as a team this season.”

Iguodala just completed his fifth NBA season and has played in 404 of a possible 410 games for his career. This past season, he led the NBA in minutes played and joined LeBron James, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade as the only players among qualifiers to average at least 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

In his sophomore season, the 20-year-old Young averaged 15.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.33 steals and was selected to the 2009 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam held during All-Star Weekend. Over his final 19 games played in 2008-09, Young averaged 20.3 points on 54.3% shooting.

The Sixers are one of six NBA teams to be represented by multiple players, joining Portland (four), Oklahoma City (three), Utah (three), New Jersey (two) and Memphis (two).

Also accepting invitations to attend the mini-camp were: LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland); Trevor Ariza (L.A. Lakers); D.J. Augustin (Charlotte); Jerryd Bayless (Portland); Ronnie Brewer (Utah); Glen Davis (Boston); Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City); Rudy Gay (Memphis); Danny Granger (Indiana); Jeff Green (Oklahoma City); Blake Griffin (University of Oklahoma); Devin Harris (New Jersey); Kyle Korver (Utah); David Lee (New York); Brook Lopez (New Jersey); Kevin Love (Minnesota); O.J. Mayo (Memphis); Paul Millsap (Utah); Greg Oden (Portland); Derrick Rose (Chicago); Brandon Roy (Portland); Josh Smith (Atlanta); and Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City).

On May 21st, USA Basketball announced that Toronto Raptors head coach Jay Triano, Utah Jazz assistant coach Tyrone Corbin, Detroit Pistons assistant Dave Cowens, former New Orleans Hornets assistant Kenny Gattison, and Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Jerry Sichting, would serve as the staff for the 2009 USA Basketball Men's National Team mini-camp.
