Postgame Report: Sixers vs Hawks Dec. 3

Post-Game Audio

76ers - 79 Hawks - 88 - December 3, 2007 - Wachovia Center

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks
On tonight’s game:
Well, it was a different game. I thought it was kind of a flat game in the beginning. Both teams couldn’t get anything going and then in the second quarter we got something going, we got ourselves up and down the floor, we got some defensive stops and one of our challenges is that we've got to do things the same way both halves. We talked about the first half of the New Jersey game, which was a great half and the second half was not as great and it was the same thing here. While the first half of tonight’s game wasn't great, the second quarter was a lot better and our challenge is to get the second half equally as good as our second was this time. I just think that's what we have to do, we have to try to get our "tale of two halves," we’ve gotta get them on the same page.

On Sixers’ third quarters:
Yeah, like I said earlier, early in the game we were flat. Second quarter we got ourselves going a bit, got some easy baskets, got in the open court a little bit and third quarter didn't get as much. You can't get in open court if you’re not getting stops and if you're not getting stops, you're playing halfcourt basketball, and we gotta get better at playing halfcourt basketball. Right now, we're not that good at it; we gotta get better at playing halfcourt basketball.

On tonight’s turnovers:
Turnovers are a big part of it. If you're not scoring the ball and you turn the ball over, and they're running the ball up our backs, and they're getting easy baskets, and shooting at our rim, when they do run halfcourt basketball and they get open jump shots, they make them because they've been going down our backs quite a bit.

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Willie Green
On tonight's game:
We knew that this team beat us pretty bad in Washington. We didn't talk too much about it before the game, but we knew we had to watch them and come out and set the tone and set the stage. It was just one of those games, it was ugly, but we'll take an ugly win.

On shooting 13-15 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter:
I think that was big we attacked the basket. We got the bonus early. Lou and Sam did a great job. They got to the free throw line and made them and that was the difference in the game.

Philadelphia 76ers Center Samuel Dalembert
On shooting 13-15 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter:
It was excellent. I got scared for a second; I knew I had to make that free throw. It was a crucial point in the game. We needed that one point. We waited to have a tremendous shooting game… Good luck to the teams who we are gonna play against.

Philadelphia 76ers Guard Andre Miller
On the younger players on the team:
I think they are doing fine. They are playing good basketball. They are doing what they have to do, that’s all you can ask. The goal is to provide some type of leadership and any time you do that the guys have to take it and learn from it. It’s a learning experience for everybody.

On tonight’s game:
Normally we have been having slow starts in the third. I didn’t think it was an offensive game for us. It was defensive. Our defense kept them from getting easy baskets and that’s a team that likes to get to the free throw line.

Philadelphia 76ers Forward Reggie Evans
On tonight’s game:
We focused and we knew what we wanted to do. We wanted to apply straight pressure! We gave ourselves time to set up. We have to work on our transitions, but overall we found a way to get a win. Overall we are a good defensive team. We help each other out. Overall we played good solid defense, and that’s the way to get wins.

Atlanta Hawks Head Coach Mike Woodson
On fourth quarter defense:
We have been pretty good in the fourth quarter. In our last five outings, we have been really solid during every fourth quarter defensively; we just have not been putting up a lot of points. I thought tonight we made a stance in the third quarter and it was a nice carry over into the fourth, were we really got after it defensively to secure the win.

On tonight’s game:
We missed a lot of good shots early. I thought we had great looks early, and then we struggled to put the ball in the hole. We shared the ball tonight offensively. We had 26 assists. Were we needed to be all night; we were there and were able to cover all bases.

On A.C. Law:
He was a little rusty and you could see it tonight. He missed a couple of plays around the rim that he normally makes. A lot of that is timing and him getting use to being back in game situations. But he was able to orchestrate the offense, and make plays when they needed to be made.

Atlanta Hawks Forward Josh Smith
On playing in Philadelphia:
Since I have been an Atlanta Hawk, we have not won here in three years. It feels good to come here and get a win; in an environment that I think is one of the most difficult, I think, to get a win in.

On playing Andre Iguodala:
Atlanta Hawks Forward Marvin Williams
On second half adjustments:
We really didn’t change much, we just stick with the game plan overall. Coach reminded us that we had some great shots, but we just needed to make a couple. After the second half, we came out with the same opportunities and were able to take advantage.
