Postgame Quotes - May 11 Game 4 - May 11, 2003 Sixers 95, Pistons 82
“I felt better than I did last week. Flying back on that plane from Detroit was tough. Both games we had chances to win and they made plays. You have to give them credit. The toughest thing was when I knew Eric (Snow) was hurt, I thought it was going to be even more difficult. But we have had a lot of guys step up, and first of all him (Snow). With the pain and limitations he has had to play through, he has been incredible. We had so many guys play great tonight. Allen’s overall game just keeps getting better and better. D.C. (Derrick Coleman), Kenny (Thomas) – our big guys defensively for the most part were sensational. As a result we got a win.”
“I’m not surprised at all. I feel good about what we accomplished. You know I like back-to-back games a whole lot. We used that momentum from yesterday to carry right over to today.” On playing back-to-back games “It was important to be focused (about the game) and approach it the way it needed to be approached. I got a lot of rest. I was so anxious I didn’t get as much (sleep) as I normally would get. I was just looking forward to coming in here and tying this thing up. You just have to take your hat off to my teammates because they responded real well. They did a superb job on both ends of the court. This was a big team win, even more than yesterday.”
“We wanted to make our presence felt early in the game, especially playing a playoff game back-to-back – it is tough. So, we wanted to come out and show that we had the mental edge from the beginning of the game and have a strong defensive performance.” On whether the Sixers thrive off of adversity “I hate for it to be one of those situations, but it seems like teams gotta back us up against the wall and we come out scratching and clawing. But, we’ll take it as we can get it.”
“We’re confident, but there is no way we are going to relax. We need to come out with the same defensive effort at their place that we did tonight. We need to prove to ourselves that we can beat them at their place in the playoffs.” On Derrick Coleman “He is playing great, especially offensively. We [have] really milked the fact that Ben Wallace is always trying to help. [Derrick] is open so much on the pick-and-rolls. He has just done such a great job of either getting Allen open or getting himself open. That has really been our go to play the last two games. They haven’t been able to stop it, and hopefully he is going to keep it going.”
“We had too many turnovers. We have to step it up in the next game. They (Sixers) took it to us twice in here. We have to play better, and do a lot of things better. We have a couple of days to think about it and make some changes, and that’s what we’re going to do.” On Derrick Coleman “Derrick Coleman has been consistent throughout the series. Watching him this year, I was with him (during) his first four years in the league: I felt that this has been his most consistent year. He continues to be a force. He’s playing well at both ends. He’s rebounding and he’s hitting shots. We’re going to have to deal with him better.” On Allen Iverson “(Allen) Iverson had his shot going tonight. He was dishing the ball and guys were hitting shots. It’s tough, no question. That’s what makes their team so hard to play; you have to deal with him and all of the chain reactions that he causes out there. Obviously, we’re going to have to do a better job. We didn’t do a good job the last couple games here (Philadelphia).” On the Sixers winning two at home “The Sixers have great energy. They have a great building behind them. We’re going to look at the film and figure some things out. We’re going home to our building, and we’re going to need our fans to respond the way the fans here did. And they will. We’ve got to play better. We’re going to have to rebound better.”
“Those guys had a lot of aggression and energy. Defensively, they have been more aggressive than they have been. We have to turn that around. I think we can turn that around by being a lot more aggressive offensively on Allen (Iverson) and some other guys as well. We definitely have some adjustments to make. (The Sixers) did what they were supposed to do, now we go back to Detroit.” “We have some things that we can do to get shots but we have to be more aggressive ourselves. When they need a basket, if it isn’t an isolation for Allen (Iverson), it’s a pick and roll with him. They have been getting a lot of easy baskets (with) guys ducking into the lane and getting lay-ups. That has been hurting us the last couple of games. We’ll go back to the drawing board (and) I expect us to be a lot more aggressive both offensively and defensively.”
“It’s nice, but just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you’re going to win. You have to come out and play. They have momentum and we’re going to have to play a lot more aggressively than we have been playing.” On the game tonight “We shoot 32 percent in the first half… that’s awfully difficult to overcome. I thought we got some good looks. We did a great job on the boards. They only had five offensive rebounds and that’s what beat us in Game Three. Their overall aggression level was better than ours. You have to be a lot tougher on the road and we weren’t tough enough.” |
