Practice Quotes - May 7
“We got into such early foul trouble, it was tough to get our guys in a flow. You have to occupy Ben (Wallace) by getting the ball inside. You have to utilize our inside people. Hopefully, Kenny (Thomas) and Keith (Van Horn) will get more of an opportunity.” On what bothered him most about last night “We turned the ball over. That really bothered me, because that kills Allen (Iverson) and hurts our defense. The Pistons space you out, and they have a lot of guys that can make shots. We didn’t handle their press very well. We had three guards against their press at one point, and they acted like they had ever seen a press before. We didn’t match their effort. It is similar to one of the games against New Orleans. I didn’t think we matched the Hornets effort. With that said, we are down 77-74 with some guys not playing up to their ability. But we turned the ball over and gave up four offensive rebounds, that was unacceptable and that was the game.” On Derrick Coleman’s performance “He was great. Buck (Greg Buckner), DC (Coleman) and Tyrone (Hill) were the guys that performed as well as you would hope in a situation like that.” On the match-up with Buckner “They went smaller with Curry and Prince. It is hard for (Buckner) to match-up with Williamson or Robinson. I thought some of our guards were struggling. Buck gives you some energy, and he gave us a chance to win.” On the Pistons defense against Iverson “The whole team was trying to stop Allen which is a big factor. If you don’t have Keith, Kenny, Aaron or Eric involved, their guys can help off and double on Allen. We didn’t cause turnovers, didn’t get out on the break, which is were Allen is at his best, in transition. We gave up some offensive rebounds at crucial points in the game, we just have to execute better, plain and simple.”
“It will be a huge loss for us. I hope it is nothing serious, and we are wishing for the best.” On the loss last night “The things that went wrong, we can learn from and improve upon. If we make those changes and adjustments, we will give ourselves a chance to win the next game. I need to stay out of foul trouble and stay on the court. My minutes were sporadic, I can be much more effective when I get a chance to get into the game more.” On the Pistons’ game plan “They did some things that took us out of our game. There are things we can do to counter the things that did, and we have done a good job making those adjustments today. I think we are going to correct some things and come out strong tomorrow night.”
“You have to be ready to play well when the coach calls your number. I was making shots and wanted to give energy on the floor. I was successful in that, but most importantly, we lost the game. Tomorrow night, we have to make more effort plays. That is the type of team this is. We play hard, get loose balls, we got away from some of that last night.” On the possibility of playing without Eric Snow “If he can’t play, it changes us a whole lot. He is our general on the floor. We need him on the floor, when he is not, our offense tends to go downhill.” |
