Practice Quotes - April 24

Larry Brown
Brown
On the Sixers’ being up 2-0 on the New Orleans Hornets
“We got to be happy, we’re 2-0. Only Sacramento and Dallas, and us are 2-0 in the series. The big thing is we just have to work on ways to improve our team. We did some good things to get those two wins, and we did some things that we need to improve on. They’re a good basketball team. Hopefully, they’ll have Baron (Davis) back and (Jamal) Mashburn able to play, so it’s not going to be easy.”

On the Sixers’ play on the road
“We have to execute better offensively, and keep people in front of us defensively because we hurt on the dribble-penetration. The big thing is we have to make sure we understand how we need to play. We can’t be like a faucet and turn it on and off, especially away from home. We have to rebound, defend, and execute away from home. Those are the things that we’re going to work on.”

On the Sixers’ being over confident going into Game 3
“I don’t know if we’ll be overconfident. (New Orleans) won a lot of games on their floor, and have learned to play with injuries. They’re pretty deep. I don’t think we’ll be over confident. We just need to worry about how we have to go about trying to get a win down there.”

On the team’s effort in Game 2 versus in Game 1
“Our inside people played great. Kenny (Thomas) and DC were terrific, and that really gives (us) a chance to win.”

Derrick Coleman
Coleman
On the Sixers’ being up 2-0 on the New Orleans Hornets
“I just think you approach it (Game 3) like you’re behind more than anything, or either its even 2-2… We’re just approaching it one game at a time. If we do (win) we do, and if it drags out, then it drags out. We can’t underestimate New Orleans. We will just keep the same mindset that we have and go down there to steal one.”

On the Sixers’ play on the road
“When we go on the road, we really try to focus in a lot more than we do when we’re at home. We really try to execute and really buckled down, trying to play even better defensive than what we have been playing.”

On the team’s effort in Game 2 versus Game 1
“I thought we came out and were aggressive more than anything. Kenny (Thomas) posts up so good and is so wide-open that you just have to give him an opportunity. Once he gets it, then he’s capable of scoring. I just can’t say enough about the way he goes to the boards and rebounds. He really helps out a lot.”

Keith Van Horn
Van Horn
On the Sixers’ being up 2-0 on the New Orleans Hornets
“We can’t look ahead too much in the future. I think our goal is to take it one game at a time. We do realize that if we take care of business on Saturday night, we’ll be in great shape. That’s our goal.”

On his personal health
“I feel good playing out there. I haven’t quite got my rhythm, and it’s going to take me a few games. Hopefully, I’ll continue to progress and soon be playing at the level I was (during) the regular season.”

On the team’s effort in Game 2 versus in Game 1
“We knew we had to (step up), especially our frontcourt. Derrick (Coleman), Kenny (Thomas) and myself, knew we had to step up and contribute because (New Orleans) were going to double Allen (Iverson) a little more. I saw them trapping Allen a lot more, guarding him, double-teaming him with pick-and-rolls. They did play him differently, but I think we did a good job at countering that.”

On the Sixers’ being over confident going into Game 3
“I don’t feel that we’re over confident. I don’t think that we will have to deal with that. We know that (New Orleans is) a good team. We know that they have veteran guys who have been in the playoffs before. I think we all realize that, and we’re going to go in the game feeling good about ourselves and confident. (We) know that they will not just lay down for us.”
