The 76ers were honored with three separate Emmy nominations when the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the National Television Academy announced its award nominees on Thursday, August 7: “76ers Basketball” for Outstanding Live Sports Coverage/Series; “Sixers Jam” for Outstanding Sports Series; and Marc Zumoff for Outstanding Individual Achievement—Sports Play by Play or Color.

This year marked the ninth-straight season that the 76ers basketball telecasts were nominated for an Emmy award. Comcast Sportsnet and UPN 57 combined to telecast more than 70 regular-season Sixers contests, while Zumoff, the play-by-play man, and his partner, color analyst Steve Mix, controlled the microphones to provide Sixers fans with top-notch game coverage.

76ers Senior Director of TV Broadcasting Shawn Oleksiak, who produced the games and who himself has brought home five Emmy awards, was thrilled with the nominations. “We are extremely proud of all of our broadcast ventures and these nominations reflect dedication, commitment and hard work. Our game coverage continues to evolve annually with cutting edge technology while remaining entertaining and informative in capturing the excitement that is 76ers basketball.”

“Sixers Jam” captured an Emmy nomination for its second-straight year. The 76ers half-hour magazine show features the most complete on-court analysis of Sixers games and the most up-close, off court look at Sixers players and coaches. Its theme focuses on the organization’s belief of giving back to its fans and to the community.

“Sixers Jam epitomizes the essence of the organization,” Oleksiak said. “We are about our community and our fans, and this magazine show conveys just that.”

Zumoff is looking to add his eighth Emmy to his collection, as he has been honored as Outstanding Sports Play-by-Play announcer seven of the past 10 years. Zumoff has been part of the 76ers broadcast team for 21 seasons and has been the Sixers play-by-play man for the past nine.

“Marc Zumoff is an artist, a craftsman and a true professional. Our broadcasts continue to benefit from his zest for the television medium and desire to grow as a broadcaster. He makes working the games as fun as watching them,” Oleksiak said.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in the Crystal Tea Room at the Wanamaker Building on Sept. 13.
