PHILADELPHIA, PA - June 26, 2002 - Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Billy King announced tonight that the Sixers selected Sam Clancy with the 45th overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft.
Clancy, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward, played four seasons at USC from 1998-99 to 2001-02. He averaged 14.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 113 games. Clancy was named a second team All-American by the Associated Press as a senior. He finished his Trojan career as the all-time leader in blocked shots (195), third in points (1,657), second in rebounding (839) and fifth in steals (134).
Originally an early entry candidate for the 2001 NBA Draft, he withdrew his name from consideration prior to the draft. As a senior, Clancy was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year and a Naismith Award Finalist.
