2002 NBA Draft - Sam Clancy Quotes

After being chosen by the Sixers with the 45th pick in the 2002 NBA Draft USC Forward Sam Clancy called into the Philadelphia media to discuss his selection.

On being selected by the Sixers at No. 25 in the second round
“It was great. I was out in Philly last year, when we [USC] had good luck in the NCAA Tournament. I am just looking forward to getting out there again and having a good career.”

“A lot of teams [did not take me] because I was hurt, or they thought I was undersized, but we’ll prove all those teams wrong in the future.”

On the status of his previously dislocated left knee
“I will be back before training camp. I will be 100 percent. I lot of teams [passed on me] because I had an injury, but I want to thank the Sixers for taking me and having faith in me.”

“I am fine now. I can walk around with no crutches. You would not even think I was hurt if you saw me.”

“I had the surgery about four weeks ago. I have been working on my range of motion, and the doctor tells me I have 90 degrees range of motion. I am supposed to know more next week, but I am ahead of schedule.”

On how the injury occurred
“I went up to block a shot, came down, landed wrong and dislocated my knee.”

On his game and his decision to go back to school for his senior year
“I feel like I am a physical player. I feel that going back to school was the best decision for me. I feel like I dominated the PAC-10 this year, and I improved my stock. If I had not gotten hurt, I felt I was a first round pick.”
