in addition, longtime NBA public relations director and statistical guru Harvey Pollack was named 30th recipient of the prestigious John Bunn Award
the Bunn Award is the highest honor bestowed to an individual outside of actual Enshrinement
Pollack received his award on Sept. 27 as well.
Brown is entering his 31st year as a coach and his sixth in Philadelphia, his longest tenure with any NBA team.

BROWN ENTERS 31ST YEAR AS A COACH: Hall of Fame Head Coach Larry Brown, is embarking on his 31st year as head coach at both the collegiate and professional level ... Brown has had a winning record in 26 of his 30 years as a head coach ... other Brown notables include:
Brown ranks ninth in NBA history with 831 victories and fourth among active coaches ... he is one victory shy of tying Cotton Fitzsimmons (832) for eighth place.
He is one of just four coaches to have won more than 1,000 games (1,060) when combining NBA and ABA records, joining Lenny Wilkens (1,268), Pat Riley (1,085) and Don Nelson (1,036).
Brown's longest tenure with an NBA team is with the Sixers, and he is just the fourth Sixers coach to record 200 or more wins.
His resume includes six different NBA teams (Denver, New Jersey, San Antonio, L.A. Clippers, Indiana, Philadelphia) where he is a combined 831-651; two collegiate teams (UCLA, University of Kansas) where he compiled a 177-61 and the 1988 National championship; and two ABA teams (Carolina, Denver) where he finished 229-107.
Brown was a three-time ABA coach of the year in 1973, 1975 and 1976, and after 18 years in the NBA, won his first NBA Coach of the Year award in 2001.
His NBA and ABA teams have finished first in their divisions nine times.
The Sixers 2000-01 team was the first of Brown's teams to advance to the NBA Finals.
CHANGING ROSTER: The 76ers roster has been reshaped during the summer through the NBA Draft, free agent signings and trades.
COACHING STAFF CHANGES: The coaching staff saw some change with the
addition of Assistant Coach Bob Bender and newly appointed Director of Sports Medicine Jim McNulty, while Physical Conditioning Coach James Lloyd announced he was resigning.
Bender officially joined the 76ers staff on July 11, 2002, after 13 seasons as a college head coach, the last nine at the University of Washington
the 1996 Pac-10 Coach of the Year, coached Todd MacCulloch at Washington as their 1998 Husky squad posted a 20-10 mark and a Sweet 16 appearance
Bender, a graduate of Duke in 1980, was an assistant under Mike Krzyzewski at Duke from 1983-1989, tutoring Billy King and later working with him at Illinois State.
McNulty begins in the newly created position of Director of Sports Medicine
he will act as the liaison between the team, players, physicians and agents, while continuing to ensure that the health of the players from rehabilitation to recovery as well as injury prevention is maintained.
Lloyd announced his resignation on Sept. 12 after two-plus seasons with the Sixers
he will return to Miami where he will continue to work with individual clients.
Jim McNulty was named Director of Sports Medicine this summer and will work to help keep the guys healthy.

SURGERIES AND INJURY UPDATES
Aaron McKie underwent surgery on June 18, 2002, on his right shoulder to repair a small detachment of the glenoid labrum near the biceps tendon attachment
he is expected to be cleared for basketball-related drills but no contact for training camp ... if all goes well, he will be cleared for contact after Oct. 18.
Derrick Coleman underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on June 11, 2002
he is not expected to return to basketball activities until mid-November.
Second round draft choice Sam Clancy who suffered a left knee injury at a pre-draft workout with the Phoenix Suns on May 13, had surgery on May 22 to repair a left patella dilocation
he is out until mid-November or early December.
Samuel Dalembert is expected to be ready for training camp after suffering a left wrist sprain on July 20, 2002, in a Shaws Pro Summer League game.
Allen Iverson continues to rehab his left hand and right elbow and is expected to be ready for training camp.
Alvin Jones is rehabbing from a right shoulder separation and left ankle sprain suffered over the summer and is expected to be ready for training camp.
Todd MacCulloch, who played with plantar fasciitis in his left foot last season, has been rehabbing the injury and is expected to be ready for training camp.
GREEK TO ME: The 2002-03 Philadelphia 76ers feature three international players: Samuel Dalembert (Haiti), Todd MacCulloch (Canada) and Efthimios Rentzias (Greece) ... all told, the NBA featured a record 51 international players from 30 countries and territories on team rosters (active and injured) for the 2001-02 NBA season.
COLLEGE CONNECTIONS: The 76ers roster includes six former Big East players...the players include Damone Brown and Derrick Coleman (Syracuse University), Samuel Dalembert and Mark Bryant (Seton Hall), John Salmons (Univ. of Miami) and Allen Iverson (Georgetown University).
BACK-TO-BACKS: The 76ers will play 20 sets of back-to-back contests in 2002-03 ... in 2001-02, 23 of the Sixers 39 losses came in a back-to-back set ... the Sixers were 10-11 in the first game and 9-12 in the second game.
IVERSON GAINS NBA ALL-TIME RANKING: Allen Iverson earned a spot on the NBAs All-Time Scoring Average Chart, qualifying in both games played and total points
Iverson, who won the NBA scoring title for the third time in four seasons in 2001-02, ranks sixth with a six-year career average of 26.9 points per game
In 2001-02, Iverson was the NBAs scoring champion for the second straight season and the third time in four seasons, averaging a career-high 31.4 points per game
of the top 10 players on the chart, only the active players, Michael Jordan, Shaquille ONeal, Iverson and Karl Malone, are not members of the Hall of Fame.
