The definition of an impact defensive player, averaging 4.4 blocks and 2.1 steals per game as a freshman… Possesses size, quickness, and athleticism that make him a nightmare in transition… On the other end, is a fantastic trail defender, using his length and closing speed to deny breakaway baskets… Plays with great energy, diving for loose balls, grabbing long offensive rebounds, and deflecting passes… Doesn't force shots and is a good passer out of the post… Has the quickness and skill take defenders off the dribble from the high post… Has the potential to one day be a perennial defensive player of the year candidate.
Currently lacks the strength and bulk desired at center position at the NBA level… Not much of a threat to score outside of the paint… Not a good free-throw shooter (52.9%)… Possesses raw post moves, but is able to get by because of his great physical tools… Suffered a season-ending ACL injury against Florida on February 12 of this year, which could delay his 2013-14 debut until around Christmas or later.
