"We're out here practicing. A lot of people could have been off to the side getting worked on and getting stretched, but everybody came to practice. We have a couple guys that are banged up, but everybody came with their hard hats on to practice. I see the passion still, we just have to transfer it to the game at 7:00."

"Just like I told the players, they're not 50 points better than us, but it's a good team and certainly the progress that we've made over the last few games is not going to be negated by the game we played tonight. We're going to throw this game out the window and try and come back tomorrow and, obviously, be alot better."

Coach Cheeks spoke to the media about only being 6 games out from being in the playoffs:
“We go out night in and night out and try to play as hard as we can and try get the results we are looking for. What happens after that is hopefully good things, but our whole mission is to go out and try and play as hard as we can and to try and get guys better. As of late we have been winning some games and that’s a result of hard work.”
Willie Green spoke on whether he thinks the team has come together
“Definitely, we are getting better as a team, we are growing as a team. We went through a lot of changes, and I think we were trying to find our identity, and I think that we are on that path right now to doing that.”

“Biggest difference is defensively, we are coming out and making the necessary stops that we need to make. Offensively, we are sharing the ball, everybody is getting involved, sometimes we might have slow starts but we have been able to find the energy to overcome that and get victories."
Rodney Carney had this to say about his injured shoulder:
“I’m feeling alright, a little sore. I went through practice today, got some shots up, all my shots are a little short, it’s kind of different then when I was shooting around a little earlier. Then when you get out here and really play it’s a little different, so all my shots were short, felt a little pain, but I’ll be ready by at least Saturday as the latest.” Click the link below to listen to the full audio.

"It's amazing," said Sixers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks when asked about the possible feat. It was pointed out that the Sixers went 12-0 against the East on the road once when Cheeks was playing, but he resonded, "Yeah, but...zero. That's an amazing stat."

“What we have to do is try to keep guys in front of us, I think that’s the main thing and that’s something that we’ve been talking about for a while. Not just rely on our big guys trying to block shots. These guys shoot a lot of jump shots and they shoot a lot of threes and our challenge is trying to get back in transition, matching up and taking the first guy that is back there.”
Sixers Center Samuel Dalembert commented on the importance of his defensive role when playing against someone like Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns.
“He knows where everybody’s at. He penetrated, attracting attention and dished the ball because someone’s going to be open for a period of time and get time to shoot their shots. It’s going to be huge for me, it’s going to be a test for me to defend the inside.”

Andre Iguodala had this to say when asked why fans should come out and see the 76ers play during this seven-game homestand:
"I think that the record’s shown in the past 9 games that were a capable team and that we can compete with the best in the NBA. We have a great point guard, Andre miller, who’s helping a group of young guys progress and become players. Samuel Dalembert is coming into his own as one of the best defensive players in our league. And myself, I’m growing everyday, trying to become a great player in this league.”

"Certainly, whoever they put in is not the player that LeBron is, so we have to make sure that Andre keeps his adrenaline and keeps his agressive play on the defensive end and on the offensive end," said Cheeks. "When you hear that LeBron's not playing, you can kind of just drop. It's not just him, it's everyone. We have to guard against that. Whoever they put in their lineup and plays will certainly not be at the caliber of LeBron, but we have to stay aggressive no matter who it is."

Coach Cheeks on the new combination of Steven Hunter and Samuel Dalembert playing in the same line-up...
“I like them. I think that they bring us a lot of defensive presence in the middle,” said a pleased Cheeks. “Like last night both of them has 3 blocks, 12 and 15 rebounds respectively. So I think when you have those two big guys out there it clogs up the middle. When you have two big guys in the middle like that it gives you a defensive presence.”
Steven Hunter on his coach's decision to adjust the line-up...
“I feel that this can work because I think before some of our weaknesses were defensive rebounds and defense as a whole.” Hunter assessed. “ So what better to do than put your two best defensive big men out there at the same time on the floor.”
Samuel Dalembert on his team's play as of late...
“We have the chemistry out there,” Dalembert states. “Sometimes were doing very well for three quarters and other times we just do it for two quarters. When we continue to go out there and do it consistently for four quarters throughout the game, it could be really tremendous.”

"Steven Hunter is going to start in place of Joe Smith so you'll have Sam (Dalembert) and Steve in the front court,” said Cheeks.
When asked about starting along side Dalembert, Hunter admitted that he was excited.
"I like it," said Hunter. "I think we make a pretty good tandem. We can definitely clog the middle up. I'm going to have his back and he's going to have mine. I think we're both one of the more athletic big guys in the league, so I want us to go out and play well and show everybody that we can definitely coincide together."
Practice - January 18, 2007 |
Head Coach Maurice Cheeks touched on the recent trend of being down double digits at half time and then having to close the gap in the second half.
“I thought the second half of our game was so much better but we put ourselves in such a hole to try and climb out of each time and it’s always so difficult to do,” said Cheeks. “You have to do everything right, you have to make every shot and they have to do everything wrong to have a chance to win. You cannot keep putting yourself in a hole like that.”
Andre Iguodala spoke about the difficulties that the team has had lately with their defensive rotations and how they will work to get better in that area.
“I think working on it in practice, getting the communication down, knowing which guy is supposed to be where. There can’t be any grey areas, There can’t be ‘Maybe it’s you, maybe it’s me.’ It’s has to be ‘That’s the way it is and that’s it.’”
Andre Miller also spoke after practice and answered questions about the team’s effort.
“Yeah, I think the team is playing hard enough but at the same time, this is the NBA. I can’t really pinpoint what’s wrong with the team but the main thing is through the struggles we have to stick together.”

"He has taken care of the middle, he has blocked some shots, and he has double figure rebounds," said Cheeks. "His rebounds are not just coming to him, he's going from side to side to rebound the ball. That's the mark of a good rebounder, when you're going from side to side to rebound the ball. More importantly he's just been out on the floor commanding the middle, taking care of the middle, and blocking some shots. In the Milwaukee game he blocked two huge shots for us, the other night in Charlotte he blocked about four shots. Just his commanding of the middle has been big for us and just rebounding the basketball. We have to get everybody doing just that, but certainly Sam being on the page has been great for us."
Cheeks also announced that Willie Green will be in the starting lineup in place of Rodney Carney tonight.
Pregame - Jan. 12, 2007 |
"We have nine wins, we have no overconfidence factor here," said Cheeks. "We have to go out and play hard basketball for 48 minutes. They still have NBA players, regardless of the players that they have out. Obviously Michael Redd and Mo Williams are major players on their team, but they still have NBA players and they just replaced one of them with Earl Boykins who is a very, very good basketball player."
Cheeks also announced that Willie Green will be in the starting lineup in place of Rodney Carney tonight.
Shootaround - Jan. 12, 2007 |
Pregame - Jan. 9, 2007 |
"I think the guys that are out on the floor are benefiting from (knowing their role)," said Cheeks. "They know they are going in the game. They know when they are going in the game. Although there are a lot of young players out there, the benefit is that they get to play. Though practices are a great tool for guys learning, there is no better tool than learning in game. The Minnesota game is certainly an example of that. Andre was in a situation to try and win the game for us, and the more times he's in that situation the better he's going to be."
Practice - January 8, 2006 |
The 76ers new Executive Vice President, Larry Brown, was at the Sixers practice on Monday and took some time to speak with the media about his new role and his excitement to be back in Philadelphia.
“I’m just here to help in any way that (the 76ers) want," said Brown. "I’ve been in the league for a long time. I’ve been involved with Billy forever, and in whatever area they want me to help I’ll be happy to help. I wouldn’t be here unless it was OK with Billy and Mo. I just want to see us get better.”
"I really like Philadelphia, I had a great experience here, and I know we’ve gone through some hard times, so I’m excited about trying to help. There are some good people around here...They’ve got a lot of good young kids on this team so it’s going to be fun being part of it.” 76ers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks also commented on the addition of Brown.
“I’m not opposed to Larry being around," said Cheeks. "Larry is a hall of fame coach. He understands this game as well as anyone. Anything I can do to try to help us get better, whether it’s inviting him in, going to dinner, going to lunch, sitting down and talking about a lot of things that I think he can help me out with, I’m not opposed to it."

Both Andre Miller and Sixers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks spoke about what it's like to try to adjust to a new team playing the point guard position.
"It takes some time (to get adapted), but at the same time it's just basketball," said Miller before the game. "All these guys that play on the team, they've been through it before also. It's a different attitude with different egos and different types of players. It takes some time to get adjusted to who wants the ball in certain places, but once you get that going you just go off of instinct."
"A point guard has the ball in his hands, and whenever anything is in doubt he can always call the screen and roll," said Cheeks when asked about the transition. "Everyone has one play that's the same, ours is "three down" and Denver's is something else, but it's always the same play so whenever a point guard has a brain lock on any play, and Andre being a good screen and roll player, he can always call the screen and roll. We have no trouble with him doing that."
Conference Call - Dec. 21, 2006 |
Pregame - Dec. 13, 2006 |
"I think our morale is good. The way we've been playing, we've been playing pretty good basketball, we just haven't had the results that we've wanted. I know we keep playing hard, and that we get a lot of good things done, but we just haven't had the finished product yet. That's what we want, the finished product of getting a win. Then the morale will obviously be a lot better, but I think it's pretty good now despite the circumstances of us not having won a game in a while.
The Sixers will be without Rodney Carney tonight because of the flu, and Willie Green will start in his spot.
Pregame - Dec. 11, 2006 |
"We're just trying to get ready for the game, that's our focus. We're trying to get from No. 5 to No. 6. It's been a long time and we're not thinking about anything but the game tonight," said Head Coach Maurice Cheeks.
Pregame - Dec. 8, 2006 |
Cheeks made the decision that Iverson will not play tonight or tomorrow night against the Magic and addressed the topic with the media.
"Because he didn't play in the 4th quarter in Wednesday's game in Chicago, he didn't practice yesterday, and he didn't go through shootaround today I made the decision to take him out."
King also addressed the media pre-game.
