The 76ers have been on a roll with 4 consecutive wins under their belt. After a nice day of rest, the Sixers returned to Tuesday's practice in full stride and in good spirits to prepare for Wednesday night night's meeting with the Sonics. The 76ers look to keep their winning streak alive.
Coach Cheeks spoke to the media about only being 6 games out from being in the playoffs:
“We go out night in and night out and try to play as hard as we can and try get the results we are looking for. What happens after that is hopefully good things, but our whole mission is to go out and try and play as hard as we can and to try and get guys better. As of late we have been winning some games and that’s a result of hard work.”
Willie Green spoke on whether he thinks the team has come together
“Definitely, we are getting better as a team, we are growing as a team. We went through a lot of changes, and I think we were trying to find our identity, and I think that we are on that path right now to doing that.”

Joe Smith commented on what the team has been doing differently.
“Biggest difference is defensively, we are coming out and making the necessary stops that we need to make. Offensively, we are sharing the ball, everybody is getting involved, sometimes we might have slow starts but we have been able to find the energy to overcome that and get victories."
Rodney Carney had this to say about his injured shoulder:
“I’m feeling alright, a little sore. I went through practice today, got some shots up, all my shots are a little short, it’s kind of different then when I was shooting around a little earlier. Then when you get out here and really play it’s a little different, so all my shots were short, felt a little pain, but I’ll be ready by at least Saturday as the latest.”

Head Coach Maurice Cheeks spoke after Tuesday's practice about the challenges the Sixers will face tomorrow night when hosting the Phoenix Suns at the Wachovia.
“What we have to do is try to keep guys in front of us, I think that’s the main thing and that’s something that we’ve been talking about for a while. Not just rely on our big guys trying to block shots. These guys shoot a lot of jump shots and they shoot a lot of threes and our challenge is trying to get back in transition, matching up and taking the first guy that is back there.”
Sixers Center Samuel Dalembert commented on the importance of his defensive role when playing against someone like Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns.
“He knows where everybody’s at. He penetrated, attracting attention and dished the ball because someone’s going to be open for a period of time and get time to shoot their shots. It’s going to be huge for me, it’s going to be a test for me to defend the inside.”

The Sixers will play the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight for the second time in three nights, except this time the Cavs will be without their star player, LeBron James. Before the game, Sixers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks was asked about how James' absence will affect Andre Iguodala's play.
"Certainly, whoever they put in is not the player that LeBron is, so we have to make sure that Andre keeps his adrenaline and keeps his agressive play on the defensive end and on the offensive end," said Cheeks. "When you hear that LeBron's not playing, you can kind of just drop. It's not just him, it's everyone. We have to guard against that. Whoever they put in their lineup and plays will certainly not be at the caliber of LeBron, but we have to stay aggressive no matter who it is."

The Sixers are preparing to tip-off against the New Orleans Hornets tomorrow night, and Maurice Cheeks, Samuel Dalembert, Steven Hunter, and Andre Miller all spoke with the press after practice today.
Coach Cheeks on the new combination of Steven Hunter and Samuel Dalembert playing in the same line-up...
“I like them. I think that they bring us a lot of defensive presence in the middle,” said a pleased Cheeks. “Like last night both of them has 3 blocks, 12 and 15 rebounds respectively. So I think when you have those two big guys out there it clogs up the middle. When you have two big guys in the middle like that it gives you a defensive presence.”
Steven Hunter on his coach's decision to adjust the line-up...
“I feel that this can work because I think before some of our weaknesses were defensive rebounds and defense as a whole.” Hunter assessed. “ So what better to do than put your two best defensive big men out there at the same time on the floor.”
Samuel Dalembert on his team's play as of late...
“We have the chemistry out there,” Dalembert states. “Sometimes were doing very well for three quarters and other times we just do it for two quarters. When we continue to go out there and do it consistently for four quarters throughout the game, it could be really tremendous.”

The Sixers are preparing for their third matchup of the season with the Miami Heat tonight, and Head Coach Maurice Cheeks announced before the game that they are going to switch things up a bit.
"Steven Hunter is going to start in place of Joe Smith so you'll have Sam (Dalembert) and Steve in the front court,” said Cheeks.
When asked about starting along side Dalembert, Hunter admitted that he was excited.
"I like it," said Hunter. "I think we make a pretty good tandem. We can definitely clog the middle up. I'm going to have his back and he's going to have mine. I think we're both one of the more athletic big guys in the league, so I want us to go out and play well and show everybody that we can definitely coincide together."

The Sixers held practice today after a discouraging loss to the Grizzlies last night in Memphis. Immediately after returning home it was back to the drawing board as the Sixers hit the court and in their quest to get back to the basics.
Head Coach Maurice Cheeks touched on the recent trend of being down double digits at half time and then having to close the gap in the second half.
“I thought the second half of our game was so much better but we put ourselves in such a hole to try and climb out of each time and it’s always so difficult to do,” said Cheeks. “You have to do everything right, you have to make every shot and they have to do everything wrong to have a chance to win. You cannot keep putting yourself in a hole like that.”
Andre Iguodala spoke about the difficulties that the team has had lately with their defensive rotations and how they will work to get better in that area.
“I think working on it in practice, getting the communication down, knowing which guy is supposed to be where. There can’t be any grey areas, There can’t be ‘Maybe it’s you, maybe it’s me.’ It’s has to be ‘That’s the way it is and that’s it.’”
Andre Miller also spoke after practice and answered questions about the team’s effort.
“Yeah, I think the team is playing hard enough but at the same time, this is the NBA. I can’t really pinpoint what’s wrong with the team but the main thing is through the struggles we have to stick together.”

The Sixers are playing in a special Monday matinee this afternoon as the face the Toronto Raptors on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Sixers center Samuel Dalembert has been playing well for the team lately, and that was one of the topics that Head Coach Maurice Cheeks spoke about before the game.
"He has taken care of the middle, he has blocked some shots, and he has double figure rebounds," said Cheeks. "His rebounds are not just coming to him, he's going from side to side to rebound the ball. That's the mark of a good rebounder, when you're going from side to side to rebound the ball. More importantly he's just been out on the floor commanding the middle, taking care of the middle, and blocking some shots. In the Milwaukee game he blocked two huge shots for us, the other night in Charlotte he blocked about four shots. Just his commanding of the middle has been big for us and just rebounding the basketball. We have to g |
