Draft Pick History

Territorial Draft

To enable teams to take advantage of the regional popularity of college stars, they were given the option of forfeiting their first-round pick and instead selecting, before the start of the draft, a player from the franchise's immediate geographical area. These "territorial picks," as they were known, are listed at the start of earch year's draft. The territorial option was in effect through 1965.

Round-By-Round Format

Early draft records are incomplete, so until 1956 players are listed in alphabetical order by team. Beginning in 1957, the draft is recorded round-by-round.
