MCW Update

After missing the better part of the last two weeks with right knee soreness associated with a skin infection, Michael Carter-Williams returned to practice Wednesday. The rookie point guard has missed the team’s last seven games, and his status for Friday’s game has yet to be determined.

"It went pretty well," he said of Wednesday’s practice. "I practiced pretty much throughout the whole thing. I was out there and my wind wasn't too bad, and my knee was feeling good.

“I hope I get to go out and play (on Friday). I'm not 100 percent sure yet."

Thompson Thriving in Starting Role
Through the first 15 games of the season, undrafted rookie Hollis Thompson appeared in all but two games, averaging 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in just under 15 minutes per game. Thompson, who shot 44.0% from beyond the arc in three collegiate seasons at Georgetown, shot just 30.0% from downtown during that stretch. All the while, head coach Brett Brown remained adamant that the 6’8” swingman would eventually find his groove. Since being inserted into the starting lineup on December 1, that’s exactly what’s happened.

In nine games as a starter, Thompson has averaged 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 31 minutes per game, but it’s his shooting splits – 46.8% from the floor, 37.0% from long range, and 78.6% from the free-throw line – that have been most impressive.
