March is Reading Month for the 76ers and to help promote reading and its importance, 76ers second-year guard Willie Green once again helped to teach a class via video tape.

Green expanded his sessions from one to three second grade classes at Moffet Elementary School in Philadelphia. On April 4, 2005, Green made a surprise visit to the students where he read them Dr. Seuss' "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" as well as gave each child a 76ers backpack, courtesy of Gatorade, and an autographed picture.

The visit was the culmination of a week-long program in which Green pre-recorded a reading lesson that was conducted between March 14-18. Green read the play “The Pine Park Mystyery” by Tracey West. In daily interactions with the children, Green asks the class to recall parts of the story and to conduct activities such as writing in their journals or discussing his questions amongst themselves and with their teacher.

He also fields questions through e-mail and responds on Sixers.com.

Did you like reading mysteries like the one in our book?
Yeah. I love mysteries. I can’t think of any ones for kids off the top of my head.

How do you concentrate with the ball?
I focus on the little details of the game: what our opponents like to do, the
player that I am guarding, what he likes to do, and concentrate on our game plan.

Were you ever an MVP?
Yes. In college I was the MVP of the Horizon League. That’s the league
where the college I went to, Detroit Mercy, played in.

Can you touch the rim?
Yes. I can dunk the ball.

How did you learn to play so well?
Just hours and hours, days and days of practice.

Are you going to bring someone from the team when you come?
I remember you from last year.
I’ll probably just bring myself.

What's your favorite animal? I love tigers.
I like lions.

How many wins have you had while you've been on the team?
Well, last year we had 33 wins and this year we have 32, so that’s 55 total.
We still have 16 games to play, so hopefully we can get a few more.

How high can you jump?
My vertical leap is probably about 40, 41 inches.

How tall are you because you look like you really do belong
in basketball?
I’m 6-foot-3.

Can I be a cheerleader for the 76ers?
Well, we only have a dance team. You are probably too young for them,
but they have tryouts for the Junior Dance Team.

How long have you been playing basketball?/How did you become
a basketball player?
I started playing when I was about five years old. It’s something that
I love to do. And that’s why I was able to become a basketball player I guess.

Do you practice a lot?
Yes. I do extra work in addition to the team practice. Sometimes before
practice, sometimes after. Usually everyday I do extra work.

Did you ever beat the Lakers?
Yes. We just beat the Lakers at home on March 15.

What is the best way to shoot a basketball in a hoop?
Overhead or a chest shot?
I don’t know, that’s a trick question. Overhead? It depends on your
age and how much arm strength you have.

How many kids do you have?
None.

And a lot of kids wanted to know: Are you better than Iverson?
I want to be better than Allen.

How old are you?
I was born on July 28, 1981, so that makes me 23.

Where are you from?
I am from Detroit. That’s where I grew up.

Can I join the 76ers?
Well, you would have to sign up as a member of the team.
You need to be signed to a contract. So keep practicing.

Who is your best friend there?
I am friends with everybody. We are like a family.

Is it hard to play basketball?
The hardest part is being away from your family and the travel,
going from city to city. Other than that, I love it, it’s still fun.

When are you coming to our school? Will you teach our class
how to play basketball?
I have to check my schedule to see if I have time. We play a lot of games.
As far as teaching basketball, I’ll try to in the time that we have to teach
a couple of tricks. But I can’t make promises.
