Today in Sixers Playoff history
The Sixers will continue their run through the season starting on April 19, 2009 at Orlando (5:30pm tip on TNT). Throughout the rest of the month, take a quick look back through the Sixers playoff history for some memorable moments:
April 19, 1981 – After losing Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in Milwaukee. The Sixers return home to Philadelphia and defeat the Bucks 99-98, marking the last time a Game 7 would be played at the Spectrum.
April 20, 2008 – The 76ers entered Sunday evening’s contest looking to take control of the first round playoff matchup, and that is exactly what they did, as the Sixers went on to seize game one in Detroit, 90-86. Andre Miller led the 76ers with a 20 point performance to go along with 6 assists while shooting fifty percent from the floor.
April 21, 1981 – In Game One of the 1981 Conference Finals, the Sixers defeated the Boston Celtics in Boston, 105-104.
April 22, 1986 – In the 1986 First Round, Philadelphia defeated the Washington Bullets on their own floor by a margin of 91-86 for to take the lead in the series 2-1.
April 23, 2003– The Sixers defeated the New Orleans Hornets 90-85 on the floor of the Wachovia Center in 2003 to open with a 2-0 lead in the series. Allen Iverson's 29 points to go along with a 17-point, 16-rebound game by Kenny Thomas proved to be the differece in the game.
April 25, 2008 – In last year’s return to the playoffs, the Sixers defeated Detroit 95-75 in Philadelphia to take a 2-1 lead in the First Round. Dalembert's 22 point, 16 rebound game propelled the 76ers in their blowout win.
April 26, 1979 – The Sixers defeated the Spurs in San Antonio to gain a game back in the series. This win gave them the momentum to even the series at 3-3 in their return to Philadelphia the following game.
April 27, 1977 – In the Sixers march to the NBA Finals in 1977, they defeated the Celtics 110-91 to take the lead in the series 3 games to 2.
April 28, 1982 – On April 28th, 1982, the Sixers outplayed the Milwaukee Bucks to win 120-108 to jump to a 2-0 series lead in the first round.
April 29, 1990– In the 1990 NBA Playoffs First Round, the Sixers defeated Cleveland 107-101 in Philadelphia en route to a 3-2 series win.
April 30, 1983– The Sixers beat the New York Knicks 107-105 to continue their domination, which would ultimately lead to only one loss in the entire playoffs, ending with a series sweep of the L.A. Lakers to win their second NBA Championship.
