June 7 Draft Workout Preview

The Sixers are set for their third round of private workouts on Thursday at their practice facility located at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). Here’s a look at Thursday’s participants:

Back in April, Temple product Dustin Salisbery made a name for himself by earning a spot on the Portsmouth Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 16.7 points on 61.7% shooting. Salisbery increased his scoring from 9.7 points per game as a junior to 16.4 ppg this past season. He also averaged 5.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.60 steals displaying his all-around skills. The Lancaster-native scored 20 or more points nine times last season, including a career-high 34 points against Western Michigan in early December.

Listed as 7’0” in college, Aaron Gray measured in at close to 7’2” with shoes at the Orlando Pre-Draft camp, easily making him the tallest prospect in attendance. A product of Emmaus High School near Allentown, Gray averaged 13.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.72 blocks as a senior for Pittsburgh last season en route to earning All-Big East First Team honors. A prototypical back to the basket type player, Gray is credited for having soft hands and an assortment of low post moves. He was also the Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2007.

If you have any doubts about the impact of international players in the NBA, just tune into the NBA Finals Thursday night to watch the likes of Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Fabricio Oberto, Anderson Varejao, Zydrunas Ilguaskas or even the Virgin Island’s Tim Duncan. Serbia’s Marko Lekic will be the first international player to audition for the Sixers this week. At 6-10, the 22-year-old Lekic is projected at the power forward slot in the NBA and is viewed as being one of the more athletic players to come out of Europe.

USC junior Gabe Pruitt is the first point guard candidate the Sixers have scheduled for a private workout. Pruitt showed good improvement in his ability to run a team, increasing his assist to turnover ratio from 1.16 as a sophomore to 2.35 this past season. At 6-4, he has great size for his position while still possessing tremendous speed and the ability to play above the rim. Pruitt is a strong foul shooter and a 3-point threat as evidenced by his career-high seven trifectas in a game at Stanford as a freshman.
