Career

JaVale McGee, an emerging big man with much promise, was a dominant force inside the paint for the Wolf Pack this season. With Nick Fazekas leaving for the NBA at the end of the 2006-07 campaign, McGee stepped up in the frontcourt and helped lead Nevada to a 21-12, 12-4 season, good for third place in the WAC Conference. McGee was first on the team and second in the conference in rebounds (7.3 rpg), second on the team in scoring (14.1), tied for eighth in the conference in field-goal shooting (52.9 percent) and 14th in the nation in blocks (2.79 bpg).

McGee rounded out his two-year career at the University of Nevada with 122 total blocks (fourth on the program’s all-time list), while finishing his tenure as a career 54.2 percent field-goal shooter (seventh on the program’s all-time list). He posted 92 blocks this past season, which marked the most by any sophomore in Nevada’s history. McGee pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds, accompanied by 15 points and three blocks, in an 86-74 home victory against Central Florida on December 16. He also tallied a career-high 26 points, on 12-of-14 shooting, in a 30-point victory over Louisiana Tech on March 1. He then followed up that performance with two straight 20-plus point games in back-to-back wins over Fresno State. McGee posted 28 games in double figures, seven games with 20 or more points, eight double-doubles and six games with five or more blocks.

Awards

As a result of his hard work and effort, McGee was selected to the All-WAC Second Team and WAC All-Defensive Team.
