Career

Darrell Arthur’s significant contribution to the University of Kansas, in his two seasons as a Jayhawk, has brought praise and recognition to the winning program. After leading the Jayhawks in blocks (56) as a freshman, Arthur returned for his sophomore year to help lead Kansas to their third straight Big 12 Title and ultimately the National Championship, defeating Derrick Rose and the University of Memphis 75-68. In 2007-08, he went on to lead the team in blocks (53) for the second straight year. The Kansas big man was first on the team in total points (510), first in offensive rebounds per game (2.3), first in blocks per game (1.3), tied for second in scoring (12.8) and second in total rebounds per game (6.3).

Arthur notched his fifth double-double of the season in, perhaps, the biggest game of his career. On April 7, the Dallas native recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds in Kansas’ defeat over Memphis for the National Championship. He scored a season-high 23 points, on 8-of-14 shooting, while grabbing 10 boards in a 100-90 home victory against Baylor on February 9. In the very next game, Arthur connected on a season-high tying 10 field goals, for 22 points, while pulling down six boards in a road matchup with Texas. Over the course of the season, he went on to tally 28 games in double figures while clinching 20 or more points five times.

Strengths

Arthur’s low-post game is nicely complemented with an array of moves. He is an athletic big man who succeeds when his back is to the basket. Arthur has a nice mid-range game and his length has turned him into a premier shot-blocker. (NBA.com)

He can play either small forward or power forward and his speed allows him to run the floor. He shines on the defensive end, specifically in blocking shots and grabbing rebounds. (ESPN.com)
