
The Philadelphia 76ers have announced the members of the 2006-07 Sixers Junior Dance Team. The 43-member team consists of one 22-member squad and one 21-member squad that will each perform three times each during the season.
More than 70 girls between the ages of 9 and 12 tried out for the team. Auditions were held at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, on Sept. 30, 2006. Practices for the Sixers Junior Dance Team are held at Touch of Class Dance Studio.

Now in its sixth season, the Sixers Junior Dance Team is a component of the energizing Sixers Game Night entertainment, which includes Hip-Hop, the Sixers mascot, and the Sixers Dancers. Debbie Apalucci directs the Sixers Junior Dance Team with the assistance of coordinators Alicia Del Pizzo and Melissa Devlin. Debbie Apalucci Debbie Apalucci, in her eleventh season as the director of the Sixers Dancers also directs the Sixers Junior Dance Team and the newly formed Broad Street Beefcakes. She also partnered with the Sixers Camps to develop day and overnight dance camps as training facilities for future dancers. Born and raised in Delaware County, Debbie is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University. Debbie is the owner/director of Touch of Class Dance Studio, Inc. located in Broomall and Downingtown (www.touchofclassdance.com), where she teaches and choreographs. Choreographic credits include many local musical theater productions and string bands along with commercial industrials for Xerox Corporation, Capezio, St. Joseph University and Resorts Casino Hotel. She is on the advisory committee for “Dance Spirit” magazine and has been featured with members of the Sixers Dancers on ESPN TV’s “ProDance” Special. Alicia Del Pizzo Alicia Del Pizzo is in her second year as coordinator and choreographer
of the Junior Sixers Dancers. She was born and raised in the
Philadelphia area and graduated from Upper Darby High School in 2001. Alicia completed her degree at Cabrini College in Internet Computing and also directed and choreographed the Cabrini dance team. Alicia's dance training and teacher training courses were completed at Touch of Class Dance studio under the direction of Debbie Apalucci. She is a full time employee at GSI Commerce but still finds the time on nights and weekends to teach dance and direct the community service performance group "Dancertainers" at Touch of Class. Melissa Devlin For Melissa Devlin, dancing is an essential component of life and her commitment to it is a result of her fascination with people and the culture that they create. Melissa has been groovin’ ever since she could walk. She has been classically trained in ballet, tap and jazz from the age of four. The past three years have given her the opportunity to participate in the world of Hip Hop, training with Masters such as the Electric Boogaloos, Crazy Legs and BBoy Ynot of Rock Steady Crew and Henry of the Mop Tops / Elite Force.As a principal dancer in Philly’s own Flomotion Dance Company, Melissa performed this past summer in Style Queens in Tokyo, Japan. Other performance credits include Rennie Harris’s Illadelph Legends Festival, NBC Fit Fest, Common Threads, Jam for Jess and an appearance in Ron Wood’s The Highest Paid Monkey. For three years running, Melissa has been on staff at 76ers Dance Camp. She has also been a member of the St. Joseph’s University Dance Team and has taught at various studios in the Philadelphia Area including Elevations and Debbie Appalucci's Touch Of Class. In May 2005, Melissa received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management from Temple University. While working for one of the world’s most renowned event planning agencies, Melissa will continue to improve her dance game by training extensively and Co-Directing Flo Too Dance Company and the Sixers Junior Dance Team. |
