  • The 76ers Summer Hoops Tour has wrapped up its 11th year of giving back to the community. The 76ers Summer Hoops Tour is a series of free basketball clinics led by former 76ers player and current Ambassador of Sixers Basketball World B. Free. Since its 14-site debut in 1996, the Hoops Tour has grown considerably to 40 sites, reaching out to over 9,000 children.

The tour is a high-energy, free basketball clinic stressing the fundamentals of the game. Each participant will receive instruction in the fundamentals of basketball as well as special giveaway items. In addition to improved basketball skills and gifts, the children also will hear a message from Free touting the importance of education and reading in conjunction with the 76ers Read to Achieve program.

World B. Free will once again lead the 76ers Summer Hoops Tour, a series of free basketball skills clinics throughout the Delaware Valley
“I’ve always had fun playing basketball,” said Free, the former NBA All-Star. “The Summer Hoops Tour is a perfect example of the organization’s philosophy of giving back to the community. We spend the summer sharing basketball with the kids and, to me, that is rewarding.”

This past summer, the Summer Hoops Tour stopped at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), the 76ers practice facility, which held three clinics for the children of season and premium seat ticket holders.

The tour also stopped at the Carousel House, a facility committed to providing social, recreational, and educational opportunities to persons with disabilities throughout the city of Philadelphia. Additionally, they visited at the Ronald McDonald Camp, a camp for children who are currently fighting or have been treated for cancer.

The 2006 installment of the Hoops Tour has been deemed a success and looks to reach new sites and more children in the 2007 campaign.
