Magee Sixers Spokesmen

This 2007-2008 season is the 11th year in a partnership between Magee and the Philadelphia 76ers. We are one of 19 squads in the country that are associated with NBA teams. The Spokesmen are part of the Sixers family and participate in many of their community events to help promote wheelchair basketball including the Sixers Hoops Tour and the Sixers Open Practice.

The Magee Sixers Spokesmen were initially founded as the Philadelphia Spokesmen by Dan Sullivan and Alice Nagel in 1978. Over the past 30 years, they have been Mid-Atlantic Conference Champions nine times. During this time, the team has introduced hundreds of wheelchair users to the sport of wheelchair basketball. The Spokesmen continue to emphasize their goal introducing new athletes to the sport, sponsoring both elite and developmental teams.

This year, the Spokesmen will be traveling throughout the country participating in tournaments in Baltimore, Las Vegas, Louisville, Scranton, Maryland, and Charlottesville.

The Magee Sixers Spokesmen won the first-place trophy at the 11th annual Al Youakim Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. The Spokesmen went undefeated in their three games. The MVP was awarded to Spokesman Valdez Bradley. The tournament featured teams spnsored by the Nets, Knicks, Celtics and Sixers and was presented by the United Spinal Association. The Spokesmen also won the tournament in 2004.
