Sixers Name the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA First "Sixers Strong" Community Partner

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – AUGUST 26, 2013 – The Philadelphia 76ers today announced that the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA will be the team’s first SIXERS STRONG community partner for the 2013-14 season and beyond.

SIXERS STRONG is the team’s new wide-ranging community outreach program for the 2013-14 season and beyond, which will exclusively focus the Sixers’ charitable efforts on improving the life trajectory of children throughout the Philadelphia region.

To tip off the partnership, the Sixers – including Sixers forward Lavoy Allen, CEO Scott O’Neil and members of the Sixers Dream Team, presented by Parx Casino® – will refurbish the playground at the Christian Street YMCA (1724 Christian St., Philadelphia, PA 19146) TOMORROW, August 27 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil and Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA President & CEO John Flynn will discuss the partnership in a press conference at 11:00 a.m. in the gymnasium. Following the press conference, the Sixers Flight Squad will host a basketball clinic for approximately 30 children in the gym.

“The YMCA is legendary in its commitment to enhancing the lives of children, making them the perfect first partner for us as we work together to strengthen kids and our communities,” said Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil. “For years, the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA has inspired kids to not only better themselves, but also build up those around them through volunteerism and service. They embody the ideals we will drive home through SIXERS STRONG, both now and in the years to come.”

“The Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA and the Sixers are both committed to supporting the development of local youth and giving back to our community,” said John F. Flynn, President & CEO, Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA. “This partnership is a win-win for both organizations as we mutually share the responsibility of positively impacting and strengthening the foundation of the communities that we serve.”

Included in the partnership, all participants in the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA’s youth basketball program – approximately 5,000 children at 15 locations – will receive a co-branded jersey with the Sixers and YMCA logos, as well as a ticket to a Sixers home game. Sixers players will be engaged in events with the YMCA throughout the season.
