76ERS SUMMER HOOPS TOUR PREPARES FOR 12TH SEASON

The 76ers Summer Hoops Tour, co-sponsored by Kia Motors America (KMA) and the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, is set to tip off its 12th summer tomorrow as former 76ers All-Star World B. Free hosts a series of basketball clinics that will take place during June, July and August around the Greater Philadelphia Region. The annual tip-off event will be held on Thursday, June 21, at Emanuel Recreation Center located at 8500 Provident Avenue in Philadelphia at 2 p.m.

Continuing in its tradition, the 2007 Summer Hoops Tour will provide youngsters throughout the Philadelphia-area the opportunity to improve their basketball skills and learn from Free, the Ambassador of 76ers Basketball & Director of Player Development, and other members of the 76ers front office staff. Participants will be led through a series of drills and games emphasizing the fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, rebounding and the importance of teamwork.

“I’m excited to start the 12th year of the Sixers Summer Hoops Tour,” Free said. “Spending my time in the summer teaching the youth of the Greater Philadelphia area about the game of basketball is a joy for myself and the entire Sixers organization.”

After debuting with 14 locations in 1996, the Summer Hoops Tour has grown tremendously during its 12-year existence and will include 40 clinics this summer. The tour encompasses the entire Philadelphia region from Lancaster, Pa., to the Jersey Shore and extends as far north as Allentown, Pa., and as far south as Dover, Del.

The Summer Hoops Tour is free of charge and open to children of all ages. Each clinic lasts approximately 90 minutes and no pre-registration is necessary. Free will be accompanied by the 76ers mascot, Hip-Hop, while 76ers play-by-play announcer Marc Zumoff and radio voice Tom McGinnis will serve as emcees for the clinic. The Pepsi Bottling Group will be providing Aquafina water for the participants at each of the 40 stops.
