To help prepare patients for the holiday season, President and General Manager Ed Stefanski, Theo Ratliff and Marreese Speights visited Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia Tuesday.
“We try to reach out to a lot of people but this is obviously special at Magee. To watch these guys, and the effort they put in. The things that all of us take for granted, just a little movement in our hands or our upper body. You can see the anguish and the effort they put in and it helps us all put things into perspective,” Stefanski said.
The Sixers made rounds to several floors in the hospital stopping by to sign autographs, chat with patients, take pictures and pass out candy canes to help spread holiday spirit within the community.
“I like coming to places like this because you can see how other people live and how they are working hard to improve. You become more grateful and appreciate people in their position,” Speights said.
Ratliff and Speights played patients in several games including Nintendo Wii and encouraged patients to keep up their hard work and determination in therapy.
The Magee Rehabilitation focuses on physical and cognitive rehabilitation and has been serving the Philadelphia community since it’s opening in 1958.
This was just one of the many ways the Sixers will be giving back to the community this holiday season. “It was great being out here at the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. There are a lot of people here with serious injuries but they have great spirits for the holidays and we hope we helped them enjoy themselves. Just being here makes you feel blessed,” Ratliff said.
