There were 85 professional athletes selected as Good Guys from the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, and NASCAR. Players are selected from franchise and league nominations by the writers at the "Sporting News", who this year chose Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling as the “No. 1 Good Guy” in sports.
The NBA received 20 Good Guy awards, with the Sixers sharing the impressive distinction along side the Denver Nuggets of being one of only two teams having more than one representative. As a league, the NBA’s 20 selections were higher than MLB, the NHL, and NASCAR.
Snow’s recognition from the "Sporting News," his third-straight year, centers around the guard’s outreach program titled “Eric’s Challenge.” The program focuses on father/son relationships, and Snow contributes significant time and money ensuring that “Eric’s Challenge” makes a powerful impact in the community. This past summer, Snow hosted a charity golf tournament to raise money for his program, and he regularly invites fathers and sons to Sixers’ home games.

As an organization, the Sixers have a long history of being honored by the "Sporting News" for their work in improving the community. Former Sixer Dikembe Mutumbo was named the “No. 1 Good Guy” in sports in 2001.
