76ers To Match Money Donated to Firefighters
The Philadelphia 76ers are teaming up with Philadelphia Local 22 firefighters to collect donations for the Twin Towers Fund relief effort at the Sixers two exhibition games at the First Union Center on Oct. 9 and Oct. 24. The Sixers will match every dollar donated by fans at the two games and hold a raffle to raise additional donations for the Twin Towers Fund.
The Twin Towers Fund benefits the families of the heroic police and
firefighters who lost their lives in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. New
York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani established the Twin Towers Fund to ensure
that the generous outpouring of support for the families of the uniform
services heroes affected by the disaster are coordinated, responsive,
responsible and accountable.
Eight Philadelphia firefighters will be on hand at each game to "Fill the
Helmet For Our Fallen Brothers." The Sixers host Dallas on Tue, Oct. 9 at
7:00 p.m. and San Antonio on Wed, Oct. 24 also at 7:00 p.m.
In addition, the Sixers will raffle off such autographed memorabilia as a
pair of Dikembe Mutombo's sneakers and Robert "Tractor" Traylor's sneakers
from training camp as well as the game ball used in the Oct. 9 game that
will be signed by the entire team.
