Beach Bash Returns

by: Jonah Morris

Put away the sneakers, break out the flip-flops and come join the Philadelphia 76ers as the “Beach Bash” makes it’s triumphant return. The Beach Bash has been a staple of the Sixers summertime events for nearly a decade, and on August 4, 2007 it returns to the Jersey Shore after a two-year hiatus. The Sixers will be taking over La Costa Lounge in Sea Isle City, N.J. from 4 to 7 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Sixers Charities, which assists organizations that focus on youth recreation, health and education.

It will be an evening of fun and entertainment that will feature outdoor carnival-type games, inflatables and appearances by Sixers mascot Hip Hop, and other surprises. Inside La Costa Lounge, fans will be served by celebrity guest bartenders like Hugh Douglas, Marc Zumoff, Tom McGinnis, Big Daddy Graham, Keith Jones, and many others. Additionally Sixers alumni will be on hand to sign autographs and interact with attendees!

Fans will also be able to take part in a Sixers Yard Sale and Silent Auction. The Silent Auction will feature:
  • Gift Certificates from Local Businesses
  • Authentic Sixers Team Merchandise
  • Autographed Authentic Team Merchandise
  • NBA and NFL Branded Merchandise
  • And much more!

It will be an even more special day for the for the Sixers organization, as the 2007-08 Sixers Dancers will be unveiled. After a lot of hard work and training, the new Dancers will give Sixers fans a sneak-peek into what they can expect during the NBA season. Adrienne Della, the former Sixers Dancers Captain of 12 years, who has now transitioned to coach of the 2007-08 Sixers Dancers, sums it up saying, “It’s the first time [the Sixers Dancers] will be performing in public with all new costumes and new choreography. It’s an exciting time.”

The road to becoming a Sixers Dancer was long and competitive. After two intense workshops and audition that had attracted over 150 prospective dancers, the whole process culminated at the Final Auditions held at July 18th at Chickie’s and Pete’s. In front of a noisy and supportive crowd, thirty finalists competed for just seventeen spots. With the team now set, Sixers fans attending the Beach Bash will be in for an incredible experience.

Attendance is free and no tickets are required. For directions to La Costa Lounge, please click here.
