Sixers Go Red Night

Diabetes Awareness Night

January 20, 2010

The Philadelphia 76ers held a Fit for Fun basketball clinic at the Sixers practice facility on Saturday for children with diabetes. The clinic was held in anticipation of Diabetes Awareness Night this Wednesday, when the Sixers take on the Portland Trailblazers at the Wachovia Center. To see photos from the event, click here.

Melanoma Awareness Night

November 9, 2009

As the Sixers looked to defeat the Suns, the Sixers organization took the opportunity to alert their fans to the dangers of ultraviolet radiation during Melanoma Awareness Night. Jason Smith presented Linda Stowell, Regional Vice President/East of the Associated Press, with the Sixers Pioneer Award, which recognizes individuals who have dedicated their lives to bringing awareness to a health-related cause. Fans were encouraged to take advantage of free melanoma screenings at the Wachovia Fargo Center courtesy of Main Line Health, and information on proper skin care and sun protection was available both the arena and on Comcast SportsNet.

Smoke Free Night

December 11, 2009

While Philly faced Houston, the Sixers hosted Smoke Free Night in partnership with Main Line Health, the 76ers official health care provider. Information on smoking prevention and quitting was available at the Wachovia Center and children who took a Smoke-Free Pledge received a Hip-Hop t-shirt and certificate. Awareness Nights are part of the Sixers' community initiatives to support local organizations in their work for public health and wellness. The monthly nights correspond to home games and involve recognition, health services, activities and information distributed in-arena and during broadcasts.
