76ers All-Star Reading Team - Dei Lynam

What was your favorite children's book growing up and why?

  • My first recollection of books I loved were the Bobsey Twins…the whole series.

What is your favorite book now and why?

  • I have enjoyed so many books – picking one favorite is difficult. Tuesdays with Morrie was a wonderful story of friendship, life and death. The Greatest Miracle in the World by Og Mandino, The Notebook by Nicholas sparks…I like reading books that take me to a different time and place.

What book has had a major impact on your life and why?

  • The Greatest Miracle in the World was maybe a hundred pages. It’s a story of a rag picker, a millionaire, and a geranium plant. Count your blessings is one of the four messages it leaves you with. Since first reading the book 20 years ago I have re-read it ten times and given it as a gift another ten.

Who got you interested in reading?

  • My sister always read as a kid…but she read really fast. I was a slower reader…still I enjoyed it. I went through a stage where I only read for school…until my senior year in high school when my Dad and I would read fiction novels. If he liked it, I’d try it.

Is reading an important part of your profession?

  • Extremely important. I read magazines, newspapers, articles on the Internet, etc. It sparks ideas, keeps me informed and contributes to my creativity.

    Why is reading important?

  • Reading gives you knowledge and knowledge is power. Reading is food for one’s imagination. It can introduce you to the world and its people – past and present.

Why do you love to read?

  • Reading for me is relaxing. And depending on my mood, I can explore humor or history or learn about myself or engross myself in a mystery…reading expands my world.
