Bogut, Paul Named T-Mobile Rookies of the Month

NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2006 – Andrew Bogut of the Milwaukee Bucks and Chris Paul of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets today were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in January.

Bogut, the number one pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, led all rookies for the month in rebounding (8.8 rpg) and blocks (1.35 bpg), while ranking third in scoring (10.4 ppg) and third in field goal percentage (.554 percent) among rookies. At this time last year, the team was 15-27 and ranked 13th in the Eastern Conference. Currently the Bucks are ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 23-21 record.

Paul, the fourth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, garners Western Conference Rookie of the Month honors for the third consecutive month. He led all rookies in scoring (16.4 ppg), assists (7.5 apg), steals (2.14 spg) and minutes (34.2) for the month of January. After suffering a torn thumb ligament, he missed only one game and led the team to their first four-game winning streak since the 2003-04 season.

Jan. 13 at Charlotte: In a 103-102 win, scored 18 points, had a career-high 17 rebounds, and tallied five assists, two blocks and two steals.
Jan. 18 at San Antonio: Tallied 13 points, 10 rebounds, one steal and one block in 92-95 loss to the Spurs.
Jan. 27 vs. Toronto: Recorded 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and one block in a 108-87 victory over the visiting Raptors.

Chris Paul, New Orleans/Okla. City Hornets
Jan. 2 vs. Charlotte: Scored 24 points and had 11 assists, four rebounds and one steal in a 103-86 win over the visiting Bobcats.
Jan. 4 vs. Miami: Recorded 15 points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals in a 107-92 victory over the Heat.
Jan. 21 at New York: Had 27 points, 13 assists, seven rebounds and one steal against the Knicks in a 109-98 win.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month were Indiana’s Saurnas Jasikevicius, Houston’s Chuck Hayes, New York’s Channing Frye and Sacramento’s Francisco Garcia.
