Rookie Rankings - March 27, 2006
By John Schuhmann
|
So we got a ton of e-mail Sunday evening. Why? Well, one Charlie Villanueva scored 48 points in an overtime loss to the Bucks. He shot 20-32 from the field, 6-11 from downtown and only went to the line three times. He came just three points shy of Vince Carter's franchise record of 51 points in a game.
So you wrote. What did we think of the game? Can you put Charlie at No. 1 for just one week as a reward? Chris Paul couldn't do that!
Sorry. The overall rankings don't work that way. Chris Paul is still head and shoulders above the pack. In fact, Villanueva didn't even earn the top spot in our rankings for the week. That's right. Check out Raymond Felton's numbers from the three games he played this week. Forty-eight points is nice, and CV started the week with a 15-point, 8-rebound effort in New York, but two sub-par games sandwiched in between put him at No. 2 for the week.
Don't worry we've cleared out the inbox for you ...

One of the reasons Charlie Villanueva went off was the absence of Chris Bosh, who left the game less than seven minutes into it with a sprained thumb. At this point, Bosh is questionable for Wednesday's game against Miami, so Villanueva could be seeing some more extra touches this week.

LETTER OF THE WEEK
|
Being a Wisconsin transplant, I was excited to catch the Bucks win over Portland on Monday. I was also impressed with Andrew's Bogut's level of play. Even though he doesn't get the numbers of other rookies in regards to points, he's solid on handling and passing, plays tough defense where he isn't afraid to tussle, knows where to position himself and his confidence showed. His overall game is a pleasure to watch and he definitely has an impact on the game. I'm very impressed with his level of play.
Michael - Portland, Ore.
